Her brow furrowed as the Warden commanded the woman she had run into to stay where she was, but she didn't get a chance to question him. As soon as he'd appeared he was off again and Roran didn't have time to think about where he went before the forest line exploded (okay that was a bit of an overstatement) with darkspawn. Without thinking, Roran unsheathed both her blades and poised herself for battle. The most she'd ever really faught in the guard were bandits and a few wild animals, but these darkspawn were more terrifying than any animal she'd ever seen. She remembered seeing them as a child during the first Blight and froze for a moment in an unexplainable fear. She could hear people around her moving into battle, but she paused and wondered "can I survive this?"
But as soon as she'd asked herself that question she had given herself the answer. Of course she could. Shooting a quick prayer to Andraste and her mother, Roran lunged at an approaching genlock, sadistically noting they were very close to the same height as her. She spun around in her spot, pulling her blade from the genlock and aiming her dagger for another that came up behind the first. It was in that moment that she caught sight of the woman and what she was doing. She was holding her palms close together and seemingly held a ball of frost between then. "Magic..." she whispered under her breath, suddenly terrified by more than just darkspawn. Mages always made Roran nervous, even when they were accompanied by templars and this one had just stumbled out of the forest.
She didn't have time to think about that though. She watched as the woman shot her frost ball at a charging hurlock and was mesmorized to see it, and a few other darkspawn around it, freeze in their tracks. Shaking her head briefly, she managed to gain control of her thoughts and continued her assuault, trying to keep an eye on the mage. Cutting through the small horde that had attacked from the nearby forest, Roran found herself at the frozen darkspawn and slashed at it. She didn't really think she'd do much to the frozen figure and had really only struck out because she was focused on felling any creature around her that wasn't human, but when her blade made contact with the beast, it shattered and fell into thousands of pieces. That caused Roran to pause in her assualt again and stare at the mess open mouthed. She looked back at the woman and laughed lightly. "Do that again!" she told her, stepping back to stand nearer her and out of the way of another freezing wave.
