It was early spring, but already the air had started to heat up. The evening had been a warm one and as the sun set lower in the sky, the heat was starting to cool off, giving those in the village some sort of reprieve. As part of the guard, Roran had been stationed on the out skirts of the town and was told to watch the perimeter. She took her job seriously and while she wanted to relax a bit under the nearby trees and enjoy the soft breeze that was coming through the area, she made herself stay vigilant. She was so focused on the task at hand that the sounding of the alarm bells caused her to jump in spot and swear loudly. Realizing that might have been a bit of an overreaction she was suddenly glad she was alone. But just as she started to turn her attention back to the shadows, she heard something in the distance.
Furrowing her brow, she peered into the darknesss and strained her ears. She heard a commotion but couldn't see anyone. The was a heat to the breeze that turned just as quickly into an electric tingle and the hairs on her arm stood on end. That could only mean one thing: magic. Roran was aware there had been mages in the Warden's party and while mages normally made her nervous she felt there was a sufficient amount of templars present to be able to handle a situation should it get out of hand. Despite knowing there were mages in the town, she nervous about this feeling. She was fairly certain the mages were all in the town, making poultices and potions and tending to the wounded, so who was in the shadows?
She didn't have time to consider that further though. As she moved towards the perimeter she heard a rustling coming her way and drew her sword, leaving her dagger sheathed. She didn't know what was rushing through the forest her way and while she was prepared to fight, she didn't want to harm an innocent. Holding her breath, she waited as the noise came closer and closer until finally it broke into the open area. It was a woman and her eyes were wide in fear. Roran barely had time to move her weapon out of the woman's way before she collided into her, both of them toppling backwards.
"Oof!" The breath in Roran's chest, that she hadn't noticed she'd been holding until now, rushed out of her mouth as she hit the hard ground. Taking a moment to regain her senses she laughed lightly at the slight irony of the situation. She was positioned out here to look for darkspawn, but instead she'd found a human. "Maker, are you alright miss?" she asked the other woman. Roran didn't wear heavy plate armor like the other warriors in the guard, she preferred lighter chainmail and leather armor so she didn't think the woman had harmed herself in the fall, but she didn't know if that altercation she'd heard had caused her any injuries.
