Coan Bryland ; the ferelden noble (coan) wrote in thedas,
The group was smaller than what had become normal for these sorts of fights. As a result, it was taking much longer to cut this group down to a much more manageable size, though, that's not to say they weren't managing. Still, it was something he was going to have to get used to, whether he liked it or not. He felt a little off, too, not having Noa with him, but she was still acting skittish around the larger Mabari. Coan was unsure of how long Nerys and her canine companion would be in their company, but if they were going to be in Redcliffe for any longer, Noa was going to have to get over her fear and learn to work along side him. For now, though, he felt she would be of more use to the other two, and that he needed to learn to rely on her less.
Cringing at the sound of viscosity wicking away from his blade, Coan removed his short sword from the side of the newly fallen Hurlock just as he heard a distinctive crackling. It was like the sound of a campfire amplified, followed by a scent he'd experienced as a boy after a close encounter during a storm. Turning toward the sound, he saw the Emissary casting the static laden spell once more, striking the elven archer, knocking him flat on the ground. As he moved to attack his path was immediately blocked by another Genlock. Striking quickly, he slashed the beasts knee with his axe, the sword, without delay, followed into its side, each strike was succeeded by another as he rapidly picked up momentum.
Finishing the Genlock off with a slice between its helm and breastplate, he moved past the falling body toward the Emissary, but didn't get too far. He thought his eardrum had burst as a shrill cry pierced through the din of battle. Before him appeared a Shriek who, with its sudden appearance, knocked the young warrior off of his feet. Scrambling back up - not an easy feat when armed and armored as he was - he jumped back at his screeching attacker and began to unload relentlessly.
He knew well that the Shriek was a fast, slippery opponent, but despite his armor - and thanks to good training - Coan was rather agile himself, and much more hardy. He would have to do away with it quickly, knowing where there was one Shriek, there were going to be more. Striking at its legs, the thing lashed back four times, but as he managed to dodge it twice, it eventually fell. Getting closer to the Emissary, he was knocked down by yet another Shriek, though he got back up easier this time. But just as he gained momentum, he fell to his knees, hands over his ears as a pair of them squealed before overwhelming him. Pinned to the ground, they attacked quickly with their barbed blades, and while his armor was holding up for now, they'd eventually find the weak points.
