Imenry could not help but smile back when Signy did and she leaned back against her hands and tilted her head back briefly, letting the sunlight wash her skin. With the summer season her skin had begun to darken and tan, common to a woman who spent the bulk of her life outdoors. She was looking forward to the fight, to helping these people, and facing a real challenge. She was a woman who was used to being active, and fighting had become the focal part of her life for the past two years. It was true that now she had other things to consider; new friendships, dealing with her own past and finally finding the strength to mourn her parents. It would come in time.
"It doesn't surprise me to know you volunteered. You've become a lot bolder. What do you think about being a Grey Warden? Does it make you proud?" She didn't know how the dwarves thought of Grey Wardens, if they had their own tales, considered them great heroes in the way many human societies had. But it seemed they must, for at the camp in the mountains, all of the dwarven companions had seemed to hold great respect for the Warden Commander.
Imenry let her gaze fall back to the lake, the ducks quacking and diving for fish, shaking water from their tail feathers. She watched their orange feet paddling just beneath the surface of the water. "It's a good idea to leave some behind to help in the village. There are a lot more people here that need protecting."
There could very well be people out there that needed protecting too, but Imenry thought that was rather unlikely. In the event of an attack or threat it was common for those that lived outside the protecting walls of their lord to be brought inside for their safety.
She was about to inquire about the source of water for Orzammar then, if they lacked their own reservoirs or rivers. Perhaps melted snow from the mountains outside were what sustained them. But her trail of thought switched gears when Signy made her next statement, and she smiled again, her eyes lighting genuinely. "I'll feel better to, knowing I'm there with you. You're a Grey Warden now, and capable, but it's always good to have someone to watch your back. I've got your's and you mine."
