Alderic considered the ranger's concerns, nodding briefly in acknowledgement but uncertain how best to formulate his reply. Truthfully he felt he knew little of any substance regarding this matter, a disconcerting state of affairs to find himself in considering that he was now a Warden. People would look to him as an authority on these matters, should he not be better educated? He new at least of Ostagar and his party's mission, and was aware of no pressing reason to conceal their business from the woman.
It was at about this moment that the elf, sounding frightened, stammered her admission. Alderic lowered his eyes briefly, betraying his relief through the hint of a pensive smile. He made no indication that he would erupt into accustations, nothing else in his body language even changed. Politely, unhurriedly, he began his response to ranger Nilas. "The Grey Wardens of our party are ourselves products of the Order's recent recruitment. If a greater horde is amassing I fear as junior members we may not yet be privy to that information, as we have been informed only of our assignment. I can tell you that considerable numbers of Darkspawn have been reported near Ostagar. Our commanders believe that a creature called a Broodmother may have nested there; we are to determine if this is true, and dispatch the beast should it be discovered."
"Please," he added, unclasping his hands from behind his back and crossing a fist over his breastplate, a sign of respect to the ranger as well as an apology, "A moment." His responsibility to the Bann's servant at least partially discharged, he turned his gaze back to the elf, Aeolyn. He stepped toward her, treading lightly as he could in steel greaves.
"It is commendable of you to come forward with this, Miss Aeolyn," he spoke warmly. "You need not fear; you have done the right thing."
