Alderic moved to the side of the little room and turned to face their guests. He remained standing as did Rhocanth, the action necessitated by the heavy plate he wore; he would have preferred to avoid looming, he had no intention of intimidating anyone, but he could hardly help it that he was tall.
The elf seemed listless, spiritless, a vast change from her demeanor downstairs. Such a difference in so short a time struck Alderic as significant. She gave an impression of guilt, and perhaps resolve; he had seen such behavior before. The Templar gave her a small smile as everyone in the room settled in, trying to be supportive, reassuring. He could not shake the memory of that flash of expression he had seen from her downstairs, the glance to her dwarven companion that pleaded "help me" as clear as daylight when she'd denied accusations of apostacy. Perhaps if she were... the admission would be easier for her with fewer strangers clustered together like this. He wished that he could simply take the girl aside, explain that he meant only to help her... but the ranger complicated the matter all the further.
He removed his left gauntlet while Rhocanth spoke and shouldered the pack he'd been carrying onto an unadorned bedside table, setting the gauntlet beside it. With both hands now bare he clasped them at the small of his back and stood politely, trying to avoid wondering how in the world the Tranquil of all people had gotten himself into a fight.
Nodding to his fellow Warden when the young man finished his explanation, he supplied simply, "Of course, Rhocanth. Thank you for your aid, ser dwarf, we could hardly afford to lose our Tranquil to a tavern brawl." As he'd been getting to know the dwarven Warden a little better over the past few days, it had become rapidly obvious that the young man missed his home, his culture. It didn't surprise Alderic in the least that Rhocanth should wish to talk to another dwarf.
As Rhocanth went on to ask the names of the two yet unidentified persons in their company, Alderic murmured respectfully to the human woman, "What is it that your Bann wishes to know, ranger Nilas?" He kept an ear and an eye on the other conversation, but perhaps if the ranger's questions could be resolved quickly and simply it would make the other matter simpler as well.
