Quintus’ words were hardly the usual brand of comfort that one would dish out to someone so badly frightened, but in a way, they were soothing anyway. To know that it wasn’t just her who found darkspawn so horrendously disgusting made her feel better. Although only marginally, since the man assured her in the same breath that it would only get worse in time.
The girl sighed, and reached out for the proffered flask. She sniffed at the liquid inside almost delicately, scrunching up her nose at the rather strong smell. She glanced over at Quintus again almost questioningly, but he really seemed to be offering her a drink, so she shrugged, tilted her head back, and took a gulp.
The horrible taste almost made her spit it out again immediately, but with a heroic effort she managed to swallow most of it, shuddering. It made her eyes water, which perhaps wasn’t surprising as she wasn’t all that familiar with alcohol, let alone the strong stuff that Quintus seemed to favor. “How do you manage to drink this like it’s water?” Ashya asked, even as warmth spread through her from the alcohol. She looked down at the flask again, contemplating taking another sip. It was supposed to help, right? She could put up with the taste, if necessary.
