Ashya shifted, moving position, drawing her knees up and wrapping her arms around them. A conversation would keep her awake, she didn’t need to go to such pains to stay uncomfortable anymore.
She glanced at the man as he looked for something inside his bag, half hoping he would bring out more of those tasty treats he had shared earlier. Sweet things would be sure to wake her up and do wonders for her morale, too. However, he placed it back down with his hands still empty, and she had no energy to even look disappointed.
“Well, the Warden Commander came to the Tower some time ago and asked for volunteers to help the Grey Wardens,” the girl said. At this particular moment in time, it seemed so long ago, so far away, so safe, compared to this. Then again, on remembering the Harrowing, it seemed less so. She paused for a moment, trying to remember what she could say and what she had lied about. She could hardly say Well, I found out everyone lied to me so I used the Wardens as an excuse to get the hell out of the Tower, true as that was. “I volunteered to help those that were chosen to become Wardens, and after a bit of persuasion, they let me go.”
She propped her chin on her knees, looking at Quintus with eyes that were still tired, but marginally more alert. Her natural curiosity, was, as usual, getting the best of her. “What about you?”
