Conlan steps away from the group a bit
Conlan watched events unfurl with a mixture of resignation and irritation. When he was recruited, he'd wondered if the Wardens would function with more military discipline. It turned out that even they moved more like a mercenary band. Different people from different walks of life who all had their own ways of doing things, and their own ideas of how said things would be done.
But even with mercenaries, one didn't often find a group so fractured. Usually mercs all had a general idea of what they were doing. One would be put in charge and the rest fell in line. The group would function more like a pack of dogs then a military unit, but they'd get the job done. This was not that organized. They'd come to look around, but no one was looking, they were split, and talking in hushed groups. After Lalin stalked off, Con tried to keep a little separate from the smaller groups and scenes that were forming, so he could keep an eye on the alienage.
That was when the commotion started, and at the center of it was Dolain. Conlan tried to ignore it, it wasn't his business, he wasn't personally slighted, yet. And more importantly, a commotion like this was bound to draw attention. The group certainly hadn't been very subtle with their entry to the alienage, Con knew sneaking around was pointless. Instead he figured the commotion could be used to their advantage. It seemed like the whole alienage had come over to see what was going on. Conlan's eyes scanned the crowd, maybe he'd see a familiar face, or the kind that said "Oh god I've been made" instead of "What are those kids shouting about?"
His attention was drawn away when Dolain began shouting about trusting Shem. He was shouting it at Lalin, and it didn't sit well with Conlan. He didn't trust a lot of people, but one of the few he did was the small elven girl. Conlan would have died to protect her, without a moments hesitation. For a moment he contemplated stalking over to Dolain and straightening him out. With his fist.
But ultimately Conlan knew that throwing more people into a massive public confrontation is a bad idea, and it would make him ignore the mission just as much as some of the others hand. Besides, Lalin was a big girl, she wasn't some naive child, and Conlan trusted her to handle her problems, also to know to ask him for help if she couldn't.
Instead he continued to scan the crowd when he noticed that Faer was looking at him confused. Conlan gave him a shrug in return. Faer was the closest thing they had to a group leader. He felt like maybe they should discuss, and try to come up with a plan. Conlan looked down at the ground and could almost see an imaginary line that if crossed, would put him in a position to be overwhelmed by the drama.
After a moment Con felt it would be better if Faer came over to him.
