Davin scuttled several feet backwards when Ordhan tried to take the rocks from him. He held the armful of rocks closer to him, ignoring the way they poked and tore at his soft skin. The tears had dried from his cheeks, and he swallowed back his last sob. Davin knew he should feel scared or sad, but that was no longer what he was feeling. Anger was bubbling up in him, much stronger than he was used to feeling. It roared in his ears.
"You're not good for anything then, are you?" he shouted. "You just get to stand there so, so people will think you're important, but you can't do anything!"
Davin hugged the armful of rocks closer to his chest, where he could feel the madcap beat of his heart. He set his jaw as he stared up at Ordhan. "They're going to rescue the girls whether you come or not. They don't need you. But even after everything's okay, I'm still going to hate you 'cause you're a big stupid coward."
