Ordhan watched Constans carefully as he listened to the explanation. Some of it, he already knew. Even if Eileen had been openly acknowledged like the Ledaals rather than falsely buried, she would still not be counted among the nobility. There would be no reason to hold on to the name of a family that betrayed her. If Ordhan was hesitant to introduce his surname, how much more so would she be?
"I see," he said at length. He considered the other's offer, but shook his head. "Thank you, but it is not necessary." His eyes wandered over the stone wall nearby as he wondered how much he should say. The tranquil kept to himself, as taciturn as ever as he went from one chore to the next. Ordhan had assumed he would know little about the others, given that most of them seemed to treat him as scenery. Yet, if he knew all of their surnames, perhaps he was more knowledgeable than Ordhan had given him credit for.
"There is a certain mage I have been looking for, and I know that she is not among those who came here," he explained hesitantly. "She may be more difficult to find by first name alone." Considering she wasn't even supposed to be alive, according to the outside world, the chance that Eileen still went by Wyland seemed smaller and smaller. Eileen was not necessarily an uncommon name, which complicated things further. But it was never an easy quest to begin with.
