Distracting Ashya worked very well. “Traveling with us?” she repeated, as if unsure if she should be happy with the news or not, her expression reflecting her uncertainty. Her gut feeling was of course joy, a rush of pleasure at the thought of having both her best friend and one of her favourite enchanters along on their journey with them.
Simultaneously, she was also dismayed. There were darkspawn roaming the countryside – was now really the ideal time for the Circle to send the Enchanter and one of the youngest templars in the tower on one of their missions? Now that she knew what darkspawn really meant she didn’t think it was a good idea at all to have one of her best friends within five miles of them.
It didn’t help that Loic’s speciality – apart from frustrating apostates and maleficar, of course – was in swinging a big sword. At least mages could stay at the back of the group with the melee fighters in between them and the creatures. Loic would be one of those right in the midst of battle.
No, she didn’t approve of the situation at all.
The girl placed her hands on her hips, tossed her head back and regarded Loic with a small frown. “Are you joining us on our mission? Or will you be breaking off on your own sometime? There are darkspawn running around, you know. They’re no joke. Are you sure you should be doing this right now?”
It wasn’t that she didn’t trust his fighting ability. She knew he could hold his own in a battle, and she would have had little anxiety over him engaging bandits in a fight. But darkspawn were an entirely different matter. She could not think of the creatures without cold fear snaking its way down her spine. She did not want to have Loic face them too.
