It might be a good thing that Imenry wasn't paying altogether much attention to the mage so that she missed the expressions flitting over his face, about as good as it was that she didn't possess the ability to read minds for she might have scoffed at his thoughts about fine food making one a better person. As far as she was concerned food was there to give you energy to get through the day. The taste was rather secondary. But growing up in a mountain village where one lacked much in the way of cuisine choices had certainly not bred picky folks.
Tucking her tongue into her cheek she lifted her gaze to study him a moment. He seemed surprised that she could cook perhaps, which was a welcome change from the leagues of people who expected her to know how to cook simply because she was a woman. Smiling wryly she made her way towards the fire, casting a glance over her shoulder at him.
"Passably so. I'm afraid I'm not as skilled as Quintus, but I know the basics. So if you were looking for prize-winning cuisine I'm afraid you'll be disappointed, but it will do the trick."
She put the food aside and leaned over to set up the pot over the fire where it could heat. She knelt to slice the meat up into chunks. It was deer, so a fairly lean piece of meat. She seasoned it with salt and pepper before dropping it into the pot where it hit the metal with a sizzling sound. She moved it a little higher off the fire so it wouldn't cook too quickly and glanced at the mage. She wasn't certain if the man intended to watch her cook but he could lend her a hand in this at least.
"We'll need some water from the nearby river. I could use a hand, if you're willing." She picked up a set of larger empty water skins that was usually used for cooking and washing up amongst the group.
