It was not often that he walked through this wing, and only did so now because of duty. These faces were only specters of their old selves, and while the Rite was a mercy, seeing visages of once lively children turned into expressionless wax dolls was deeply unsettling. The Tranquil Commons were empty, and it would seem that the recipient of his summons was no longer present.
He had turned to leave when he heard the muffled exchange through the walls of the adjacent room, voices that were far from devoid of emotion. Tobias sighed as he entered the room, fully anticipating scolding some necking teenagers, and was at once shocked and dismayed to see that it was the newly appointed Enchanter.
Tobias very rarely immersed himself in Tower politics, choosing instead to remain an impartial sentry. This was the first time though, that he'd stumbled into a situation where he was completely unsure of the chain of command. If this had merely been two apprentices, he would have no doubts of how to react, however this was an Enchanter. A mage with a position of authority, and one who should know better. This had certainly never happened before. Not only was this inappropriate, but this coupling was a gross violation of Tranquil commons. Disturbing to Tobias on a new level- just because they possessed no emotions, didn't mean they deserved less respect. They were silent witnesses, but they were witnesses nonetheless.
He coughed once, narrowing his eyes briefly. "I believe that Enchanter Keigwin is trying well beyond the appropriate bounds, Apprentice Ledaal."
