Conlan watched with a sigh as two of thier companions took off running. Then again so far the whole mission had most of the earmarks of your typical mercenary job, so soldiers running off was not unexpected. He wondered what dangers lurked nearby. Darkspawn? Bandits? He felt like at least one of the Wardens should follow, and of the four present, he was the least squishy.
The thought that this might be an ambush briefly crossed his mind. Either for the guards who went charging in, or the people left behind unguarded. When it seemed like Karoshok was not going to charge off, Con felt a lot better about stepping away from the group. Besides if it were an ambush, it would rely on the bait being picked up by a mabari warhound, and a group lead by a mabari seemed like an unlikely group to specificlly set up an ambush for Con turned toward the party.
"I'll check too, probably nothing but we should stay alert just in case." He turned and moved after Cormac and Ordhan, not at the same speed they had, but certainly with haste. He let his shield slide off his shoulder and onto his waiting arm. Once he arrived at the fight he saw the bodies. It might have been an ambush, but it wasn't for the wardens and thier company. After a quiet sigh at the loss of life, he moved forward. He didn't draw his blade having no intention of actually fighting, The whole situation seemed a grim portent for what the group would likely come across later, and Conlan was hesitant to jump in without knowing the details. If only the Maker provided him with little red and blue circles to denote good guys from bad guys. But Conlan knew that things were rarely ever so clear cut.
Conlan had no intention of joining the fight, and Ordhan and Comac seemed to be well placed to calm things down. But Conlan lived by a set of rules when on a job, and one of those rules was watch the backs of the people you're with, and that's exactly what he intended to do. He stepped into the fray, shield up and ready, dedicating himself solely to defending his companions while they sorted out this mess.
