"I was," Constans began delicately, his face an impassive wall, "dangerous."
"Understand that I had a record of insubordination. I acted rashly. When I became concerned that I would not be Harrowed, my decisions only grew poorer. Eventually..." How should he phrase this? He knew that he toed a line merely by admitting as much as this to a mage, but to leave the girl with the belief that he was lying seemed wrong to Constans. Desiderio had never believed his assertations either, but in Constans' mind his story was plain truth. Certain facts might be omitted, but this was for the greatest good, and the essential points remained unchanged. He was unable to be Harrowed, he submitted himself to the Rite... to all but those personally involved in the matter, why should further detail be relevant?
"It was necessary to have a discussion with the Senior Enchanter. It was by then plain to me that I must accept Tranquility, and so I offered myself willingly."
