They each had managed to make it through their own lonely childhoods, in part due to their friendship. In part due to a fierce stubbornness, at least on Aurin’s part. He knew that Kendric wouldn’t say anything, either he wouldn’t care or he would be lost in his own thoughts. Aurin didn’t even worry for the consequences of someone finding her in his room. He had made a career out of avoiding reprimands and consequences. He glanced towards the package again before he walked back to the bed to pluck it up in one hand and turn it over in his hands.
The evidence of his preparations were obvious. Weapons cleaned and set together in a bundle next to his armor. A crossbow leaned against the wall and a quiver full of bolts. A trio of wicked throwing axes next to it, gleaming in the light that streamed in though the window. Clothes were strewn on one side of the bed, he was always a messy packer. “I don’t know where I will be going, with which Warden’s I’ll be traveling with. I know we all leave soon though.” His words were quiet as he looked up towards where the woman sat.
Concern soon replaced wariness as he watched her. “He told me you survived. Nothing else.” Aurin replied as he took the few steps to cross the room, taken by the urge to sweep her into his arms. She looked so vulnerable there, he wanted to protect her. It was ironic since now she was the one that was supposed to be protecting him. Things were changing in so very many ways, and so quickly it was difficult to keep up. He set the book on the desk next to her in favor for lying one hand lightly on her shoulder, intending it to be a comforting touch. It wasn’t want he wanted. “…and I can see you aren’t fine.” He said softly as he curled his strong fingers around her shoulder with a gentle touch. His other hand came up to rest on her opposite shoulder with a light touch.
He did know about Maddock and Byron, that him and Kendric were the only Templars left in the Keep. He also knew that Kendric would be returning to the Tower. He smiled though, putting his own worries away to focus on the woman instead. He wanted to fix things, even though he knew he couldn’t. “You will be fine though, I know you.” He added with a thrumming sense of faith heard in the quiet words of the Templar.
