It sounded harmless enough to Aurin as well, that’s why he suggested it. Something easy, and nebulous. Something they can claim at a later date. Something that he could convince himself to come back from the dead for. That sort a thing, a reason to come back. There could have been wiser things, there could have been easier things. This thing however seemed just the right thing to offer at the moment. He wasted no more time on it however, for he could see that glimmering challenge in her eyes. The impish look he had thought she had forgotten. The years seemed to melt away as he watched her stand there. They were teens again for a time, and that was as good a gift that she could give him.
She did look silly, and he had to break into a grin at that. Not that he had ever been the most graceful of sprinters. He simply bulled though most things. He was very skilled at that however, and he knew his legs were longer and stronger than hers. He allowed her that head start. No it wasn’t just to watch her run either. He wanted a fair contest. He slid up to the stone bricks that marked that line though with a rich laugh. “Oh can you? We’ll see about that! I’ll be opening the door for you in a moment!” He taunted right back towards the mage. By the time the words were out of his mouth he was eating her dust.
He waited a handfull of quick heartbeats before springing forwards after his ‘prey’. His longer legs did carry him far with every stride. He was closing the gap but he wasn’t quite sure if it would be quick enough to win. Though no, he wouldn’t just let her win. Now what fun would that be?
