He listened as intently as he could when she talked, trying to soak in any details she would leak to him. Trying to know things had not only been a part of Faer’s personality but also a part of Faer’s job as the Keeper’s First. His lessons mostly consisted of dealing and learning his magic, but every once in a while the Keeper would spend the day telling him stories of their people, the history of Thedas and how it came to be what it was today. This had been the real purpose of a Dalish Keeper besides leading the clan, to preserve the very last threads of history that would have been forgotten through the ages otherwise. The Keeper had been so relieved that Faer showed such dedication to this, he had always loved learning of the history and had been as interested in human or dwarf history as he was in the elvish history.
It was true to say that Faer had been quite sheltered during his twenty-eight years of life. While he knew much of the culture and lifestyle of other races in Thedas, he had never really experienced them first hand and only knew of them through the verbal references. The only other races he’s ever come across before meeting the Grey Wardens had been humans (all three of them) and a few teenage alienage elves whom sought out refugee in their clan. They had been the only other beings he had come across outside of his own clan, none of them were Orlesian -- at least, they never referenced as such and they didn’t portray any differently from what he gathered from other Fereldans of Thedas. The fact that Imenry was from a different territory was quite enticing and interesting.
Nodding in response, in her describing of how they lived while on the snowcapped mountains sounded quite alike their way of living while in the forest. The fact that they were unable to raise animals or farm in the deep roots of the forest, especially when towering trees shielded them from the sun and from prying eyes, they had also resorted to hunting, it was why they had elves who would officially be dubbed hunters and why there were so many of them in a single clan. Being a hunter just involved tracking and anything else that was vital when it came to living in the forest. He was amazed to find that even though they came from different parts of the world with different environments, they held very similar ways. In this though, he saw that everyone had a something in common with everyone else.
“Our resources, I suspect, are different from the type of things you hunt for in your village. I am sure that the animals you would find in such cold weather of the mountains would differ from the humidity of the forest by the enclosed spaces. It is hard to imagine that the both of us come from such different backgrounds, yet we still harbor similarities such as the hunting and tracking, but also that your village sounds as if it is like a Dalish clan.” He smiled and paused before continuing, asking with genuine interest and showing it on his face, “Did you like living there, then? On the mountains,” he chuckled, “I cannot see myself living in such snow, I suspect I would be far too cold to like it.” Faer had heard of snow and how cold it is, but he had never seen it with his own eyes.
