He was a quiet one, this elf, and hadn't yet offered his name in return. She wondered for a moment if she'd read him wrong. Perhaps he just wanted to be left alone. And yet he didn't seem uneasy in her company. He might have been thrown by her manner. She had no idea what sort of greetings the Dalish used, or what was the proper way to introduce oneself or strike up a conversation. She wasn't all that polite by human standards really, so she would not be surprised if she seemed somewhat off-putting already.
"I'm sorry, I'm afraid I don't know your name. Perhaps we could start again? I don't mean to come off as rude. You just... looked like you could use some company." She smiled again, this time letting it linger for a moment, sort of reassuring to the young man.
She didn't want to interrupt his musings or overwhelm him with questions. She let the silence linger between them for a little bit longer, listening to the sounds around them, feeling calmed at the steady pace of their walk, the sounds of voices carrying around them, the faint smell of the forest, almost overwhelmed by the smell of the horses.
Turning her gaze back towards the elf she dug a piece of jerky from her pack and split it in two, offering him one. "I'm sorry, it must be an obvious question. I grew up with mages actually... a couple in my village. I have nothing but respect for them."
