bethen avilla ; the circle mage (bethe) wrote in thedas,
The petite dwarf's face had begun to color; at first, Bethen was afraid she had said something to offend her, but her pleasant laughter indicated otherwise. Maybe it was at the mention of Rhocanth? From what she could surmise from her discussion with the young lord, he was rather fond of Falina, enough to conquer his fears and bring her a gift. If the flush was over a boy, she could sympathize, though she said nothing of it (neither did the knight, though he seemed to be watching her, as well), merely continued to smile. Upon the connection Falina made between the name she had introduced herself with, and the event that she had assisted with the day before, she nodded, "Ah, yes. I should have-- Yes, Bethen is my full given name, but you could just call me Beth. Or...whatever pleases you, so long as it's not terribly insulting." It was a bad joke, punctuated by a small laugh.
"I did help Rhocanth with his leaf predicament. He was amazing, climbing that tree! I hope you had a lovely birthday, Miss Falina." Beth thought to ask how old she was now, but it occurred to her that it was somewhat inappropriate to ask a lady's age, wasn't it? She could only guess by her developing features (curves and lengthening face) that she was in her teenage years, likely around Ashya's age, though she could have easily been mistaken as a much younger child from a further distance away. In fact, the pair of them could even be father and daughter if she didn't know better. It was difficult to determine Ordhan's age, but he was likely quite older than herself and likely more experienced. He wasn't pointed out to her as a recruit, though she couldn't understand why not. Still, it was another question for another time -- supposing they had more time to talk, in any case.
It was equally puzzling that Ordhan had wanted to meet her, as well. Most people had no fondness for mages. The dwarves, she understood their fascination, having been estranged from magic for most of modern history -- but that a knight had been honored to know her? Sure, she was a Warden recruit, but even some of the others had looked at her and her friends from the Circle with skepticism. Mona was well-respected, but she was also likely feared. Nevertheless, she appreciated his congeniality, and it seemed sincere. "I have met a few, but I've been traveling into town as often as I'm allowed, so perhaps that's why our paths have been so divergent. I think you heard that magi aren't supposed to leave the grounds without...er, supervision, yes?" He must have, he was standing in the courtyard that day, watching them during the announcement. "As interesting as it is within the Keep, Amaranthine is a very exciting town to see. It's rather nice to have the opportunity to stretch my legs." That was putting it lightly -- she was ecstatic to be able to breathe in fresh air and absorb some sunlight. Today just happened to not be one of those days; all the templars were either out already, or some were doing their own business. Maddock was around, but she didn't think he would have consented to be her escort for the day. So she had contented herself with the library, and it turned out to be an excellent choice.
