A scream shattered the silence, tearing Ordhan out of aimless dreams and into tense wakefulness in a moment. He was dressed and armed and running through the corridor before his mind even caught up to the fact he was awake. Yells of annoyance and surprise, muffled by the stone walls, mingled with the echo of his hurried footsteps.
After the first burst of noise, there was nothing. The knight did not halt his patrol, however. He continued long into the night, hunting through the empty halls for the source of the agonized cry. He never thought to check the larder.
