Kinloch Hold? What was that? It sounded familiar... very familiar. He had heard this recently, he knew. But where? Rhocanth let his mind work for several paces, folding his arms behind his back in a familiar pose with the leaves dangling off his fingertips. Kinloch Hold... He recalled hearing it first somewhere near Redcliffe. Redcliffe's memory was a lovely one, rich with the umber and terra cotta town nearly tumbling into the sparkling lake water... Yes, that was it. Someone had said that such a place was on the lake, but that they would not pass by it. It was something they would not see, and he had been glad. What next? The night he had stood guard with Imenry, they had spoken of the--
The tower. That was it. It was the tower full of mages. Remembering how that conversation had gone made him frown mildly. The chantry was responsible for that business, and he had said that he would not let Signy go to that tower no matter what, and Imenry had agreed. So Bethen was from the tower, but she bore no chantry symbols that he could see. He had nothing to base a guess on as to whether or not that meant she could be a mage. Drat! He was so close, he could feel it!
Rhocanth worried his lip between his teeth until Beth looked down at him, at which point he put on another cordial smile for her, bowing his head appreciatively at her effort to match their paces. Her face seemed to light up at mention of Coan, and this warmed his heart a little. How very sweet. She admired him, in some fashion or another. He almost laughed out loud as she continued speaking, satisfaction creeping up on him. Ah, no, so she couldn't be noble, if she spoke of his station in such a way. He was about to simply agree with a nod of his head when she said dashing young noblemen.
"Ohhoho..." he chuckled at last, resting his hand over his mouth for a moment. "Yes, generous and open. I like to think that suits us to a tee, madame."
His voice was not unpleasant, not too cruelly teasing, just a little amused, especially tempered by Bethen's admission that she had not met many people outside of the tower. He could certainly understand this, and his gaze was gentle as she turned to look at him. "I am truly honored. If there is anything you wish to know about my people, do not hesitate to ask. And if in turn I may ask," he felt safe enough now to do so. "What was it that you did at Kinloch Hold? That is the tower, is it not? I had heard of it once before, on my way here. Does it not house mages? Orzammar had only recently acquired mages of its own, you see. I wish to know more of them."
