Dolain raised his arms above him. He stretched towards the sky. His muscles ached from traveling, but it was a good ache. He enjoyed the soreness from sleeping on the ground and other activities. It had been quite a good deal. At first, he had been hesitant to agree to accompany Maeve to the Keep.
He did still have his gang to keep track of or at least he should have. There was a tension among the gang and a struggle of power. Some of the elves in the group were getting more and more aggressive towards human targets and others were beginning to want to lay off since some human gangs were starting to return the favors. He told everyone to take a break, think things through. Most of the gang had enough provision to get through a month without worrying about having to steal extra. He figured he would return once Maeve was settled at the keep. So, after leaving his second-in-command in charge for the next month, Dolain headed out with Maeve.
The trip was enjoyable enough. Dolain enjoyed the company of Maeve, even if she could be a bit snobbish at times, she had other redeeming qualities that easily overrode such a trait. No matter how much they walked, she always had energy for more ‘tent’ related activities. Dolain didn’t mind the cheap rate she was paying him to escort since there were so many other perks to the job. The small encounters with the wolves and drunk shem weren’t that troublesome and just made Dolain feel useful and manly. His skillful use of a bow and arrow also seemed to excite Maeve and so he enjoyed the opportunities to show off.
He continued to stretch as Maeve seemed to consider the guards at the keep. Dolain glanced around the town. It seemed to be a regular type village. They were getting a few side looks, but he didn’t mind. He raised an eyebrow at a woman who shot him a disapproving glance. The elf stuck out his tongue and wiggled it in a suggestive way. The woman quickly hurried away. He snickered.
A sudden push on his back made him stumble forward. He looked back over at Maeve, “What?” He asked, glancing towards the guards that he was suddenly being pushed towards. Dolain looked over at the elf that was only a few inches shorter than him. He sighed before looking up at the guards. The elf took a couple steps back, making it clear that Maeve was the one they should be paying attention to.
