Signy nodded at Savio's explanation, finding it satisfactory—though she wondered how, exactly, they had shipped a dog, she saved asking for later, not wanting to derail the conversation between the two topsiders too unduly, especially now that it was turning away from the thing that had made them tense. Going back to the dog seemed a bad plan. So Signy just kept doing what she had been doing, namely, rubbing slightly at the small animal's back and listening quietly.
She started to respond to Ordhan's question, to say, yes, they were both recruits, but the surfacer had asked Savio, not her, and so Signy sank down, again, and focused on the tiny dog. He seemed to look happy—she hoped he was, and wasn't about to snap or flee or... or decide her character was lacking somehow.
