Israa had made it as far south as she could without going out of her way. From her camp just north of Lake Calenhad, she was now just off of the road east to Lothering. There was a small wooded area there where she felt it would be safe to put up camp for that night, feeling that if she had kept east any longer, she'd be stuck camping in the open, and she didn't like feeling exposed. The wooded area was dense enough to hide her and subdue the glow of a fire, but was still sparse enough for her not to burn the whole area to the ground. She wasn't traveling alone anymore, either. Having lost her last companion during her fight with a pack of Blight Wolves, she came upon an abandoned den as she traveled south the next day. Upon exploration of this den, she realized her assumption had been wrong - it wasn't completely abandoned. Through the overgrown grass, she made out the shape of an adolescent wolf, doing his best to make himself look small an insignificant, a fearful and submissive posture she recognized immediately. Taking another look around, it was clear that there had been a struggle there, probably just the day before - she wouldn't have been surprised if the Blight Wolves had come through there, first. If they had, it was clear why the lone wolf was ready to submit. Knowing that the he wouldn't do very well in this area on his own, she eventually managed to cultivate a rapport with him, and continued her travels south. The wolf - who she was doing her best not to name in fear of getting anymore attached to him than she already had become - was running around her camp, acting as a patrolman and early warning system. Though, it was just as likely that he was chasing a squirrel, having another set of eyes and ears was still a comfort to her. The sun was just about set, her fire was built, and her hunting was done for the evening, so she sat quietly, writing continuing the letter she'd started to her mother as the pair of rabbits finished roasting on the fire. Hopefully the night wouldn't be too long. She knew the road to Lothering was just at her feet, and in the morning she would start her journey east, but she had grown anxious for both news and action. However, she knew that if she wanted to make the trip to Lothering quick, she was going to need all the rest she could get, so she did her best to keep herself relaxed, and relied on her new companion to keep her safe that night. |
