The pace on the muddy roads was slow here, after the heavy rain that brought a dampness into the air, a humidity that had skin sticky under leather and hair curling easily. Imenry had split her time traveling on one of the wagons or walking occasionally. The horses kept a slow pace at the front, weighted down by more passengers than normal and the slowness of the heavy wagons dragging in the mucky roads. She preferred walking to the constant jarring and rocking of riding on a wagon, the hard wood surface of a seat, and the endless inactivity. Imenry was used to traveling, walking was no trial. Her boots were caked with mud but her footsteps sure and easy along the road, avoiding the occasional puddle.
Her eyes scanned constantly. There were more than enough men here, but still, bandits could be bold these days, and if what the wardens said was true, then it wouldn't be so strange to run into Darkspawn, even though Imenry herself had only had one previous encounter with the beasts. She knew Signy was tucked safely into one of the covered wagons nearby. She'd check up on the girl soon, make sure she was fine, after all, guarding her was still the reason she'd come along. She wasn't going to leave her newly on the surface with a bunch of strangers, even if some of them were the famed Grey Wardens of history.
Imenry cocked her head to the side slightly, hearing the unsteady patter of small feet in the mud. She turned and spied a familiar blonde curled-head, walking like nobility even in the recently bought traveling clothes, but expression unsure, eyes too wide in her head. She was always looking around, at everything, curious, confused, full of questions. It was understandable. The girl had been above ground only all of a week or so at this point, and had little time to absorb the newness of it before they were rushing off with the Wardens. Slowing her pace she let the dwarf fall into step alongside her and tilted her head down.
"Needed some air or just tired of being cooped up with that wagon bumping along underneath you?" she asked, offering a small smile down at the girl. Imenry considered it not only her duty to protect Signy from threats, but also to teach her about this new world she found herself in.
