Staring up at him, eyebrow raised in challenge, she suddenly went still. Eyes widening, the blood drained from her cheeks, grin disappearing with it. He was kissing her! What did he think he was doing? Trembling in rage she reflexively reached for her daggers, ready to gouge a hole in his throat. For luck! What was going to be lucky about this, she was going to murder him. Smug asshole. Before she had a chance to make her move he was throwing her backwards through the air.
Tumbling through the air she let out a short scream. In shock over the man’s daring kiss she had completely forgotten about the river rushing behind them and the plan to escape into it. As she crashed into the water the air was sucked from her lungs. Sinking down she tried to gasp for air only to inhale water. Choking she struggled to get to the surface.
The spring water was freezing and every part of her body felt as if it was being stabbed with needles. Gritting her teeth she continued to fight to break the surface. Each attempt was met with failure, the rushing water forcing her back down to the riverbed. As dark spots started to form at the corner of her eyes she finally broke the surface. Gasping for air she tried to stay above the rushing water.
Flailing about, trying to stay above the water line, Seda looked around for the warrior. Spinning through the water she started to panic when she couldn’t spot him. She was beyond furious with him but she didn’t want the fool to go and drown himself, she had to kill him first.
A sudden splash distracted her as an arrow pierced the water to her left. Taken by surprise she sank back under, arrows falling through the water around her. Trying her hardest to swim away she pushed herself back to the surface. Looking up into the surrounding trees she could see a line of archers poised, bows drawn. Cursing she dived back under before they could fire the next volley.
Staying under water she swam down the river, trying to put as much distance between herself and the other mercenaries. Surfacing only when her vision started to grow dark she looked around for her companion again. There was still no sign of him. Suddenly spotting something she spun around to take a closer look.
Around the bend of the river lay a large cliff, overgrown with vines, water trickling down in a steady stream. She had almost missed it but from her low angle she was just able to spot the alcove hidden midst the rocks. Taking a deep breath she swam with all her might towards the hiding place. As she got closer she noticed it wasn’t a small alcove but a cave.
Grabbing the edge of rock that was jutting out into the river she pulled herself up out of the water. Trembling all over she collapsed. Coughing, clearing all the water from her lungs, she lay there for a moment, trying to regain her bearings. Breathing deeply she shakily pushed herself up and rolled over. Laying on the cold floor she closed her eyes, resting.
A sudden sound at the entrance to her hiding spot had her wearily turning her head to look. Blinking in shock she stared at the sodden man pulling himself up into the tiny cave. Biting back a sigh of relief she smirked at him. "I'm surprised you didn't sink to the bottom in all that armor."
