bethen avilla ; the circle mage (bethe) wrote in thedas,
Perhaps being snapped at should have caused Bethen to be a little more wary of the dog, but her swift jaws hadn't really been as much of a threat as they looked. Noa was close to biting her fingers, but obviously wasn't aiming for the mage's hand -- if she had actually faced any danger, she would have met it. Still, it was better to be cautious, and so it seemed wise to keep her hands clasped together in her own lap after that incident, at least until Noa calmed herself down. She listened to Coan, thinking for a moment to mention that she, too, was an herbalist as a supplement to her magic, but deciding not to interject. It wasn't exactly an important detail now, especially when he had a much more interesting story to tell and she had spoken of herself enough.
She quirked a brow at his answer -- conscripted? That...was a very different situation from her own, and she felt silly for having assumed that he had volunteered for this entire affair. But the enthusiasm he had shown, and the way he had been so delighted by the idea of traveling, it just seemed like a choice had been made. Beth wanted to apologize, but allowed him to finish first; the thought was fleeting as he came to the end of his answer. The other brow joined the first in being raised, "The Crow? As in...an assassin? From Antiva?"
Before he could respond with any kind of sarcastic reply of having meant a bird, she added on, "Is he...here?" It was hard to tell whether the idea made her frightened, or excited. Beth couldn't exactly discern the feeling, either, though her admiration for Coan had increased with her sympathy. "I...had no idea. Of course, you were there when they introduced you, and your Orlesian...friend. Do you mean...you fought an Antivan Crow and survived? How could the Grey Wardens not want either of you among them when you're both obviously skilled fighters?" Once again, she was being presumptuous, but her overwhelming excitement at the new bit of information made it difficult not to rush to conclusions.
