Backscene: Shiny and New
Who: Quintus Wulfric & Conlan Delaine Where: Denerim Alienage When: 9:32 Summary: The city guard attempts to quell the food riots in the Alienage. Rating: T for violence (and racism)
The City was in chaos, but Conlan didn't care. He stood in hi brand new armor. Shiny, and unmarred. He'd never owned anything so nice. He'd also been given his standard issue sword, and a shield painted with the crest of the queen. And he was damn proud. He'd spent the past two years learning, and working. He hoped he had become the kind of man his parents would be proud of. A member of the Denerim City Guard. He even hoped, a little bit, that he'd become the kind of man Ser Ordhan would be proud of. He was, after all, still greatful to the man who saved his life when the Blight came to Denerim.
Of course they weren't fighting Darkspawn today. No today it was Elves rioting. He wasn't quite sure why. But the elves were always causing trouble for someone. At least that's what everyone always said. Why was it they couldn't understand that Queen Anora was a good woman, and she was trying to do right by everyone. Oh well, it didn't matter. He was a soldier in service to the Queen, and he would show them. He would show the whole world.
Of course, it wasn't all glory and honor. In the two years since his mother died, Conlan had also learned that he didn't live in one of this fathers stories. That the good guys didn't always win, and that no matter how honorable a man was, he still bleed when he was cut. And Con had learned that you almost never achieved victory without sacrifice.
But that was in war. This was a simple police action. And Conlan stood with a full force of men. He'd met Quintus, an older guard who mostly kept to himself. And Albion who'd shown him the ropes. And finally Marcus, a younger man like he was, anxious to get out into the world and show them who's boss.
Conlan stood by these men, shoulder to shoulder. He believed in them too. So when Albion said that he knew of an Elf who was supposedly a great warrior, and rabble rouser, who could easily turn this from a riot into a revolt, Conlan had agreed to go and make sure he wasn't causing any trouble. And so that is how Conlan Delaine found himself in the Elven Alienage, standing outside the door of a rundown house, hand on his sword, and ready for action.
