She wondered whether the man was actually serious, Deidre's eyebrows lifting higher at the first words he deigned to speak after her insistence in knowing who hired him. "What the Maker gave me in beauty or lack thereof I try to equal or compensate with sheer persistence," Deidre riposted, her hands leaving her pockets to cross over her chest and flashing him a perplexed look. "What I look like is irrelevant, what is, however, is the fact that in doing your job, you thusly interfered with my own. The least you could do is-- "
Digressions aside, he seemed to be going in the same direction as she was, for now. Wariness assailed her, to make a deal with an Antivan was to put one's own head in a chopping block -- the subtle, yet dangerous art of the double-cross was practically perfected in these shores. She hesitated, though she certainly tried hard not to show it, keeping her gaze level on the elf's visage as she weighed her options. It was too late to backtrack now, and even if the way was open for her to do so, she wouldn't take it. She made a decision, and she was sticking to it. It was the way she ran her life, and in many ways, the proclivity to do so had been instrumental in keeping her alive out in the wide vastness of Thedas.
"He had documents," she said, finally, letting the dice fly as she mentally crossed her own River Dane. "Purporting to reveal hidden truths about Andraste, the Blessed Bride. I'm here to authenticate them -- to dispute the claim if necessary at the conclusion of my examinations." She wondered if he would find it droll, or even useless, to put such importance in several sheets of ancient parchment that most practical and modern folk did not care about. Growing up as a Chantry ward, however, taught her the lesson early on that even if she didn't necessarily believe in a higher power, Faith was a powerful tool -- and one that could be used and exploited by those who knew how to wield it.
"And all of that sort of scholarly nonsense you probably wouldn't be interested in," she continued dryly. "If you were hoping for wealth, you won't find it here. What's trash for some is treasure for others, after all. So what say you? You're the one feeling around for the possibility of an accord."
