It had been a while since they'd left Gwaren, but Coan wasn't feeling home sick quite yet. His mother sent Ser Talfryn and a few of the other knights along, and he had his dog. That's not to say he was exactly thrilled with the situation either, having to travel with the one who'd tried to kill him, but he did his best to keep focused on what he was doing there. There was a Blight coming, and he was going to be on the front line. He didn't have to get along with the Crow, he just had to get to Orzammar and back to Amaranthine without being killed or killing him. After that, hopefully they would be on different paths toward the same goal: quelling another Blight. The group had just left the Circle tower that morning, having stopped over looking for mages to send forward to Amaranthine. It was nice to have a night in a somewhat more comfortable bed, and to fill themselves with food not cooked over a campfire, but they didn't have time to stay very long. After sending the recruits back east, they were off on their way to Orzammar. They rode all day, up and around the northern edge of the river, until they started to lose daylight. Stopping just on the other side of the lake, at the foot of the mountains, they began setting up their camp for the night. They'd done their best to set their camps up in places near water so that Chella could have the 'luxury' of bathing, but Coan wasn't quite sure she'd enjoy the frigid water at the base of the mountains. Nevertheless, Alistair picked a good spot for them to stop, and it wouldn't take them too much longer to reach the dwarf city if they packed quickly in the morning, and left as soon as the sun allowed. The Warden-Commander, along with Talfryn and a few of the other knights, wandered off to collect dry wood so that thy could begin building a campfire. The others took to doing their usual tasks, while Coan stopped to give his spoiled dog a little attention. He'd yelled at her earlier at the tower, having gotten into the larder and ruining one or three future meal. He wasn't quite sure why she'd decided to be a terror, but he felt bad for castigating her, when she was only doing what dogs - including the noble Mabari - do. She accepted his apology easily, especially after receiving a pair of treats, then happily bounced off to the lake to take a bath of her own. Moving along, Coan decided he might as well start to put up his tent. If he could get some rest, maybe a nap, he and Noa could stay up for the first watch so everyone else could get the rest they needed. He hadn't been sleeping very well, anyway, what with an assassin charged with his attempted murder sleeping in the same camp and all, so he might as well put his insomnia to good use. Stopping at one of the supply wagons his mother had sent along with them, he started unloading the camps essentials, slightly annoyed that his own tent was buried under too much stuff for him to just pull it out. At least he had something to do to keep his mind off of being paranoid for now. |
