Brennan showed his rare serious side as he watched Imenry. Her caution was actually palpable, which surprised him. The fact that Imenry was taking this seriously did not seem strange, that was part of who she was, just that she seemed on edge about it. It made him worry, not for himself but for her. Clearly more had happened that she told him, or what she had told him had affected her more deeply than he thought.
It also made him feel vaguely guilty, because he had not been taking this as seriously as perhaps he should have been. It simply was not his way to be overly concerned about himself. He had kept to hiding his talents well enough, off and on. Admittedly more on than off but he was not going to put them aside altogether. Perhaps he should try harder from now on, to keep his background a secret. It would be a load off if he no longer had to hide being a mage. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he wondered how long that resolution would last.
He had yet to let on that he worshiped the 'old gods' to anyone since leaving the village, so he was not worried about that catching up to him anytime soon. When she finished talking, he reached out and covered her hand with his. "That's all well and good, Imenry, but now that I've found you, I'm not leaving."
