He winced slightly at her gentle rebuke, hidden as it was. While Brennan was the elder of the two of them, Imenry had always been the more mature. Brennan could bring out the childish side of her, but so could she bring out the adult in him. And this was where it was needed, despite his earlier attempt at levity. A part of him wanted to grouse that she could do her own wash, she was the one that got them dirty in the first place, but he squashed it and sighed instead. He would do it if needed, but by the smell he wondered if it would not be best to take them out back and toss a few fireballs at them from a good distance and from upwind.
"Imp, I can explain..." What a poor way to start, he realized. "It is not what you think...er." And that explanation was not any better. He put his head in his hands before finally saying, "I never so much as touched her, I promise." His words were muffled by his hands, but he was not speaking too quietly. Brennan could never speak quietly when he became agitated.
"I needed to leave because there were darkspawn and I was using magic." He lifted his head slightly to peer at her through his messy fringe of hair, "You know how they treat magic..." Brennan shook his head, "Ah, I'm not making any sense, am I?" He offered her a harried and hopelessly desperate smile before shrugging.
