How odd. He did not really know what to say next, a singularly new experience for him. Still he felt the need to say something, anything, but with so many questions vying for attention in his mind, it was hard to simply pick one and run with it. Especially since many of them were likely to stick him in a spot of trouble.
Finally, he decided to open his mouth and see what would come out first. Dangerous perhaps, but it was really the only way he could move forward from here. He was not one for planning, and preferred to experience each moment as it happened rather than anticipating and dictating the event before hand. It was childish, perhaps, but well worth it in his mind. Life was better unscripted and unfettered. That was he so often chafed under his self-imposed boundaries of watching what he said to whom and trying to check each action before going through with it.
It was a relief to throw that to the winds.
"Were you dropped on your head as a child?" The words might have sounded mean or belittling, but he was not very good at managing the right tone to insult someone unless he was angry. Instead, there was a touch of humor, albeit baffled humor, in his voice. After that he shook his head and stepped closer to her to get a better look at her in the darkness. "You're a mage, I know you are. You know you are!" He had seen her do powerful magic on the battlefield, so she could not lie to him. His tone took on a distinctly hurt tone as he said, "So why are you playing coy?"
It was rich, coming from him. Especially once you considered the fact that because he had not mentioned he was a mage, the was lying to her as well. He was not angry, just confused and off balance and wanting to speak his mind. Although he disliked it, he knew he could usually wrest explanations out of people if he wanted, he could turn on a pleading expression at a moment's notice.
