Her smile didn't falter, even though her confusion might have showed in her eyes. It was true, she supposed, that she was a wanderer, but she was doing fine on her own two feet, no need of any walking aids. Looking at him, she raised her eyebrows quizzingly, waiting for any further explanation. When none came, her polite, charming smile faltered a little. Was he speaking in some kind of code she did not understand? Was there a hidden meaning to his words? Her heart started to beat faster, as always when people she met expected her to know things she did not. It was hard to keep smiling, to try to look pleasant and normal, when there was a tempest of questions ranging inside her. Too bad she was asked to supply the answers this time.
"I...um...I don't need one?" she answered, failing to make it sound like a statement, the sentence coming out with a questioning tilt anyhow. "It is tiresome to walk sometimes, but I find it refreshing to move freely." Feeling somehow that this was not the answer she was supposed to give, she fought down a fidget, and waited for his reply.
