Spike opened his eyes and looked up at her. For a moment, all he could focus on was the sound of her blood running through her veins. That certainly wasn't helpful at the moment. As if he'd bite her, even if he didn't have the chip. Hell...he'd probably bite her. But it wouldn't be to kill her, and it certainly wouldn't be at a time like this. At the moment, he'd be willing to drink the stuff cold if he had to. He hadn't felt this low since his first few weeks with the damn chip, almost two years ago now. Drinking pigs blood from the butcher hadn't been the height of find dining, but at least it had been something. Here though? "Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink," he mumbled a bit incoherently as he pushed himself back into a sitting position. He was having a bit of difficult at the moment. On the one hand, he was incredibly grateful that Buffy was so willing to help. On the other...why was she so willing to help? He knew she was from the future, he knew he'd apparently done some things to win him her good graces...but that was future Spike, not thirsty, chip in his head, ready to bite the first willing victim that happened along and to hell with the pain, Spike. Again, not that he'd kill them. He hated to admit it, but those days were probably behind him for good. Still, to feel a pulse beneath his fangs again...it was enough to make his mouth water. Still...why was she helping? Why was she so soft? Had their relationship changed so much for her because of a piddly little soul? His skin crawled at the thought. As much as he loved her, as much as he'd give his right arm to be with her, he wasn't sure those terms were to his liking. He staggered to his feet with a bit of a growl. "Right then. West side. Lead the way, Slayer." He was gruffer than he needed to be, particularly since she was helping him, but he didn't like the implication. If their relationship had changed after he'd gotten his soul...well, it pretty much bollocksed things up for him. Because he was not that man, and never would be. That man might one day take his place, if what she said was true, but it wouldn't be him. She wouldn't care about him. The whole thing left a bad taste in his mouth. |
