Sniffing About
Though the fog may have cleared, the streets were still nearly deserted past sunset. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the public house was still busy, if not strangely busier than usual. Most Londoners needed something more than a nightcap to brave the dark as of late, though not all of them.
Across the street and hidden away in what could hardly be called a cul-de-sac was a clean storefront with no indication of what sort of business it dealt in. The upstairs windows were darkened except where a curtain let out the thinnest stripe of light. Movement from inside blocked the light as someone passed in front of it.
The terrible fog may have been gone, but tiny wisps nipped at the heels and ankles of the figure who may or may not have been heading up to said building. The building which was more than likely not a den of prostitutes, except that it most certainly was.
Sadie had no good reason to be out, not to mention alone, and yet it was her voice that called out to the man.
"Mr. Williams?" As if she didn't know exactly what went on in that shop -- but she sounded genuinely innocent. "Is that you?"
