Nell squinted up at him, temper flaring as the bright light intensified the ache pounding in her head. Police Inspector Morgan looked haggard himself, she noted absently. Was it just the lantern light, or had his skin taken on a yellowish cast?
"I told you, got meself turned around in the fog." She tilted her head, regarding him. "Bit of a come down for you, this, ain't it? Enforcing curfew? Thought you was of higher rank than the average Peeler," Nell couldn't resist adding.
