Kai & Bonnie Kai gets a new leash backdated to last Sunday Warnings: angst and anger Status: complete |
Bonnie had kept her distance from the network and from her friends. She knew that everyone was dealing with their own set of problems. There was still the matter of that witch that had attacked Elena and Katherine. She wasn’t sure why someone would need their blood but she was familiar with the power that came from doppelganger blood. It was power if used correctly but there was no whispers about it among the witches that existed in Los Angeles. There was also this problem, the one she was dealing with now in order to remove Kai from the equation once and for all. He hadn’t made any moves yet against Lizzie and Josie and Bonnie would make sure that wouldn’t happen. It was weird of her to be waiting for him but she didn’t wait for long. A simple locator spell helped Bonnie identify Kai’s location. She waited until he was heading back to his apartment before she actually left hers, her arms crossed over her chest as she turned her head the moment he came off the elevator. Bonnie expected him to be smug. That’s just how Kai always was when it came to seeing her. It was a little sick. Thankfully it was probably the last time Kai would look at her that way. “Keeping yourself out of trouble?” she asked, only pretending to care because she really didn’t. Bonnie had seen that Kai was currently working on his hundredth victim but of course Bonnie couldn’t help someone who constantly sought out someone who had murdered his siblings. It was disgusting how everyone seemed to overlook that. Well, that was if they even knew but why would not find out? It wasn’t like Kai wasn’t notorious for his crimes. “I’m not here to talk. I’m only here to make sure that you don’t hurt my friends or the twins. You tried to kill them back home so it’s only reasonable in that twisted little mind of yours that you do so again. Only...you’re not. You’re not going to be doing anything for a while, actually.” Bonnie couldn’t help but feel confident because she had to means to do away with Kai for a long time. Nobody would have to worry about him again as long as she had the item to Kai’s downfall. Kai had a lot on his mind. It was unusual for the heretic to have so much jumbled about up there but he did tonight. Kai wasn’t stupid. Everyone thought he was but he was actually a genius in a lot of ways. It was that mouth of his that continued to get him in trouble. Well, his mouth and his knack for not giving a damn about anything. But how true was that last part? The so-called sociopath was finding himself in quite the predicament as of late. Being in Los Angeles had changed a few things for him. No, he didn’t go out of his way to try and change who he was. That would have been boring. But Kai found himself caring about the tiny few that he considered close. Bonnie was at the top of that list for some sick reason. He assumed it was because she was someone that he desperately wanted and couldn’t have but if he was being honest with himself there was more to it than that. Not that he would admit it. Then there was Harry and Claire and for some odd reason Kol was part of the equation too. He kept a close eye on those three though and watched how they acted around the others. Kai knew better than to put any faith into those friendships. They would turn on him at the drop of a dime and he could see it coming from a mile away. Harry had already done it with Lizzie and Josie. Claire was already joining team Mystic Falls and that left Kai knowing that his days here were quite numbered. So he did what he could to amuse himself. He toyed with Klaus. He fought with Jace. And Clary had become his flavor of the month. It’s where he was coming from when he stepped off the elevator. Why not have all the fun while he still had some time? But seeing Bonnie near his door surprised him. Bonnie Bennett wasn’t the the type to search him out. She usually made him come find her. Kai slowly stepped off the elevator and lifted a brow as he walked towards her. He moved slowly and listened for any movement around the halls or close by. Bonnie wasn’t a fool. She always had a plan and right now Kai figured Damon or Enzo would pop out and decapitate him if given the chance. “Don’t I always?” Kai flashed Bonnie a smirk and cocked his head when he had gotten close enough. The smell of lavender and vanilla and distant spices filled his nose and he slowly let his gaze wander over Bonnie. “You and your merry band of misfits and hypocrites aren’t exactly on the top of my list at the moment.” He paused as he noticed her tone. “Pretty sure of yourself, Bonbon. What makes you think you could stop me even if they were.” “Because I have this.” It took her all of two seconds to take out the nicely shaped box with three bulb-like structures that looked as if they could spin out of her bag. It didn’t look like anything in particular that was threatening but it would take maybe Kai all but ten seconds to realize what she had and what it meant for him. There was a bit of joy that came in that moment. Bonnie watched that look on his face, the realization that would make his amusement disappear and the fear that would slowly creep up later. “If you’re wondering how I managed it we both know you already know that. Being seventeen years old? It wasn’t really hard for the girls to make this. I didn’t even really need to help them this time around, either. They seemed really motivated by what it could accomplish.” Bonnie looked down at the ascendant, one that could only be activated by blood and there again there wouldn’t be a loophole for Kai. Not this time. “So, this is the plan. You’re going to stay away from everyone I care about and you’re going to stop all the things you’ve been doing. The harrassing and the little games you’ve been playing. It stops and the moment you decide you need to vent is the moment that I throw your ass into a prison world. Your very own little LA - just you and a very lonely apartment complex.” Bonnie smiled and even dared to take a step towards him, his eyes looking up at that visage, that crumbling face of his because his entire life here in this bubbled Los Angeles was literally over. “You wanted me to think about, right?” Bonnie asked, clarifying their words from the last time they spoke face to face. “Well, you got your wish. I haven’t stopped thinking about all the ways to put you down until finally it hit me. Why kill you when I can send you back to your Hell?” Kai was all too smug in the way that he stared down at Bonnie. Here he was at the top of the food chain and there really wasn't anything that could break him enough to knock him down a few pegs. Even with Bonnie here he enjoyed himself and got off on their little verbal sparring. Kai was happy and knew he was untouchable because he was needed by the angels but the moment that Bonnie uttered those words he could feel the confidence pouring off of her in waves. He dropped his gaze from that pretty face of hers and stared at the weapon in her hands. If Kai’s heart could stop it probably would have in that moment. His smug smirk slowly began to fade and his eyes grew darker as he realized what this was. The anger radiated off of him and when she stepped closer Kai took him own intimidating step forward as he glared down at her. That anger was only masking what Kai truly felt inside. Deep down there was only one thing Kai was afraid of. It wasn’t losing people he cared about. It wasn’t this place or the war he was meant to fight in. It wasn’t even death. Because let's face it, how many times did people die and get brought back? No, Kai Parker was scared of being sent back to a world where he was alone. Bonnie knew how that felt. Bonnie knew how much that would make him suffer and all he could do right then was swallow back the rush of fear that he felt. It didn’t even occur to him that it might not work. Bonnie knew that wouldn’t register to him either. She had what she needed to leash the monster and Kai couldn’t do a damn thing about it. “Those evil little witches.” He nearly growled as he bit his cheek and stared at the ascendant. He should have killed them both while he had the chance but he had been too focused on Harry’s betrayal to think about what they could do here. Now he was paying for it. “Fine. I’ll stay away from your Mystic Falls group.” He snapped back at her. Los Angeles was a big city but Bonnie had to be talking about only them right? The lights in the hallway flickered with Kai’s anger and he cocked his head as he watched Bonnie’s smug nature take over. God, she was perfect. This version of her was hot and he couldn’t even ignore it. So she wasn’t going to kill him. She was just going to own him. “Come on, Bonnie. You know everything I’ve been doing has kept my attention off of all of you. What’s the matter, we’re you just a little jealous that my entire focus wasn’t on you anymore?” He chuckled darkly and shook his head at her. “You’re going to get bored without it, you know. You weren’t made for the happily ever after life. I kept you feeling alive when I had your attention. Made you matter because you really were the only one who could survive against me.” Only because Kai wouldn’t kill her. “You don’t have to do this.” “Oh, no. I think I do.” All it took was a little bit of magic and the moment Bonnie concentrated the bulbs that spun on the ascendant snapped open, as if it was about to activate. It was a warning. All Bonnie needed was to complete the spell and she would be sending Kai into a whole new world all to himself. “Just you and a big city to play in. And this time there isn’t a eclipse to bail your ass out. So, if I send you there? You’ll be damn sure it’s the last thing you’ll be doing for the rest of your life.” There was a sweet sense of satisfaction, to imagine Kai living hundreds of years in agony. The prison world was always tied to Kai’s life. There would be no killing himself. Nothing he could do in order to escape it and some part of him knew that. Bonnie saw the fear behind those always sickening eyes of his. Not this time. Bonnie felt herself finally rising to the top. “I think you enjoy tormenting others a little too much. When I told you that you needed to change I knew you wouldn’t. I knew that you couldn’t go that deep because there is nothing good inside of you. It’s a joke, Kai. You fool yourself and somehow you fool a lot of these people but you’ll never fool me. That’s the point.” Bonnie powered down the ascendant, lot letting it get to that point where it would shove Kai into that other world. “Don’t pout, Kai,” Bonnie said, not unable to hide that smirk now as she tilted her head at the heretic, at this monster who had managed to ruin her life at almost every turn. “Wouldn’t want anyone to feel sorry for you. Not that it would ever happen.” When the ascendant snapped open Kai’s breath caught unwillingly and he snapped his gaze down to it as he froze. He slowly tore his eyes away and locked his gaze back onto Bonnie. The usual look in his eyes that he had for her was gone and it was replaced by something more intense. The hatred poured off of him in waves and he reached up nearly touching her as his hand stopped just shy from her throat. His fingers curled down into a fist and he growled. “I think you enjoy tormenting me just a little too much.” He snapped back at her as he slowly shook his head and turned, punching the wall behind him, leaving a hole with his frustration. He heard her words and just laughed as he spun back around to look at her. “Doesn’t matter what I do, Bonnie. You’ll only see me one way. I could be a fucking saint and you’ll just be right there to remind me of the past.” And that was true. Kai was just trying to live here in the ways that he knew how. Sure, he could have done a better job at things but everyone just tore him down anyway. Didn’t Bonnie understand why he had done what he did at Ric and Jo’s wedding. What he did to her and Elena? It all revolved back to someone else’s actions. He was dramatic that way. His eyes narrowed and he smirked down at her. “You know if you wanted to own me all you had to do was say so.” He threw at her as he cocked his head and looked her over. “You have your fucking truce, Bonnie. I’ll stay away them.” Because what choice did he really have? Kai would burn the fucking city down before he ever got sent back to another prison world and Bonnie knew that. “You got what you want. Satisfied?” “Not even close.” Satisfied? That would be actually sending Kai into a prison world and leaving his ass there to rot. Bonnie knew that it was unhealthy. This obsession that she had with the heretic was quite frankly hallowing her out. How she wanted to void every aspect of his life that was good because Bonnie felt that he didn’t deserve it. She knew that most of it stemmed from the abuse he had inflicted on her. If Bonnie was honest none of it had to do with the things Kai did to his family, or even the things he did after he was released from the 1994 prison world. Everything that made angry came from her own torment. How being trapped in a prison world nearly pushed Bonnie over that edge, where dying seemed like the only option. People could change. Bonnie saw Damon change from a murdering psychopath to Elena’s only love. She saw how Stefan Salvatore ripped apart hundreds of people throughout his years of being a Ripper and somehow her best friend had married him in the middle of the night. Blood was on all of their hands but Kai didn’t get that free pass. His list of murders? They weren’t as long as her closest friends. That didn’t seem to matter and she had a feeling that Kai knew that. It was probably why he hated her so much, for being the hypocrite that she was being and tormenting him nonetheless. “I told you. I’m never going to forgive you for leaving me in that place. I don’t care what you do. How many times you prove it to other people that you’re good or that you’re just some troubled little boy wishing for attention. You won’t get that from me. I know that deep down? It’s what you want. You want me to let you all the way in but it’s not going to happen.” Because in the end that’s what happened. She knew that Kai’s only need was for Bonnie’s approval, one that would always fall at the wayside. People could change. They did it all the time and certainly Bonnie knew that from experience. Look at who her friends were. Look at who her boyfriend was. Kai could even change. Part of him deep down even wanted to. There was constantly something pulling at him when he did something stupid and ruthless and he knew what it was. He tried to push it away but he felt the guilt afterwards and it ate at him. He didn’t like to admit that and most of the time he never did. But he knew that if he wanted to be the good guy that he could be. He listened to Bonnie and his face stood stonelike. Her words cut him deep and the Heretic didn't like it. What was worse was that she was right. Kai didn’t deserve her forgiveness but he craved it. Bonnie held something over him that he would never be able to escape and it wasn’t even that fucked up threat or the ascendant. Kai cared about Bonnie. He did. It was horrible and wrong and went against everything that he knew but he did and she hated him with a passion, so he matched that because what else could he do? Clary’s words filled his head from just a few minutes ago and they clashed against everything that Bonnie was telling him. A sigh left his lips and he leaned back against the wall of the hallway as he watched Bonnie. His eyes softened just a fraction and he held the faintest smile on his lips as he tried to look anything but hurt. “You know, back when you trapped me in that 1903 prison world all I wanted was your forgiveness.” He cocked his head at her. “I had changed. I was even helping your friends. I helped make sure you found the map to get your magic back to get out.” “You left me there to rot all over again.” He nodded. “You knew how I felt because you were left alone there. You know how that place changes you. I don’t want to go back there. But even if I give in and try to change here you won’t see it. You’re just going to hand that little weapon of yours over my head and use anything I do here as an excuse to throw me out.” “The only reason why you changed was because you merged with Luke. It was like a light was switched on. Suddenly things mattered. You cared. That’s not how it works, Kai. You don’t just kill another sibling and suddenly give a shit.” The air around Bonnie grew heavy, her connection to magic being triggered by her aggravation, her anger channeling into it, knowing that she could just reach out and shred Kai into pieces with it. She wanted to. Bonnie desperately wanted to give in and hurt the man in front of her. “I just don’t get it. I don’t get how some people can look at you and see something different. A sweet face and dangerous charm. God, I feel sorry for that poor girl you've been talking to. I feel sorry for anyone who has to stand in the same room as you, to have to listen to your lies and your sad story about how nobody loved you. How you used your own childhood trauma to dismiss the fact that you killed children. How you nearly killed Lizzie and Josie in the womb when you murdered their mother - your twin sister, Kai.” The lights around them flickered but this time it was from Bonnie’s magic, her eyes narrowing as she took a breath, having to bring it back, to center herself before she did something that could easily hurt the people in the apartments that were on either side of them. “And let’s not even forget what you did to my best friend.” Bonnie knew it was a blow that hurt the most because of everything that happened afterwards. Bonnie having to live a separate life from her Elena who was put into a coma. Bonnie’s death being the thing that would trigger Elena’s awakening. “All because you wanted to see what Damon would do. If he would pick me over her. Again, just another sick game for you. Tell me why anyone would think that you would change?” “You’re wrong.” He snapped back at her. The aggravation was clear in his voice as he stared Bonnie down. “I cared about you before I merged with Luke. Back in that fucked up prison world.” He took his own breath and looked at her with a hint of disgust in his eyes. “I did a lot of things that I can’t take back. But you’re forgetting that you turned on me first. You tried to kill me and leave me behind.” Once Bonnie found out about his past it was really over for him and she had her mind made up. “You’re no different than me. When it comes to the people you care about you’ll do whatever it takes to protect them. You’ll kill, you’ll torture. And so will they. You’ll all just try and justify it in some way, because that’s what you all do. Damon kills and nobody cares because precious Elena loves him. Stefan can do no wrong but one taste of blood and he’s a ripper but we can’t hate him cause he feels a little guilty.” He laughed softly. “Lizzie and Josie are probably the only innocent ones in your little group and how long do you think that’s going to last? They’re siphons just like me. They know the pain of walking around and not being able to reach out and touch someone in fear of stealing a little magic. And when they get it? They know what’s it’s like to lose it again. It’s like losing a part of yourself.” “You can put the blame on me all you want to Bonnie. Really, I don’t even care anymore. But we all know you’re not innocent in this story. Yes. I killed my family. Yes. I’ve been the big bad monster in all your nightmares. Yes. I’m horrible and do bad things. I own it all.” He paused, “I hurt you. And I’m sorry. I can say that and mean it. You should believe me because if I didn’t care? Things would be so much worse right now and you already know that.” “Kill? Torture people?” Bonnie shook her head, not sure where Kai got off, how he could put her on that pedestal. “All I’ve ever done is continuously sacrifice my own happiness just so my friends can stay alive. I’ve died...God, I don’t even know how many times. I’ve given everything I have to people who might be just as bad as you but at least they’ve turned some part of their life around. What are you doing besides killing young girls and pretending to give a damn about anyone other than yourself? The people you think are friends? They hate you. All they see is a ticking time bomb but guess what? I just cut the wire.” Now all Kai could do was sit around and just wish that he could die. That’s what Bonnie wanted, after all. The suffering and the moping. The Kai Parker that couldn’t lift a finger because the moment he did was the moment that Bonnie sent his ass spiraling into another prison world to live out the rest of his tiring days. “I don’t want your apology. The only thing I want to hear is you begging me to let you out of your prison world the moment you screw up because you will. You’ll give me that reason to throw you away and I’ll be there when it happens.” Bonnie took a step back, not wanting to be this close to Kai as she started for the elevator, her eyes on the heretic. Kai flinched. It was involuntary and he quickly tried to cover it by narrowing his eyes and forcing a ‘whatever’ smirk onto his face. There was something about this that made him feel hollow inside. Maybe she was right. Maybe the people he did care about hated him. It wouldn’t be surprising. He had killed Claire and nearly killed Harry, so why wouldn’t they hate him? Kai was a destroyer of worlds. It was what he did. And now Bonnie was pulling the strings for him. Bonnie was here to make a point, give a warning, and hurt him a little bit. She had succeeded in all three and for a moment all Kai could do was watch the witch as she backed away towards the elevator. What was he supposed to do now? Sit and play nice? That would get boring far too quickly and right now he never hated Bonnie Bennett more. What did pop into his mind was why the hell she was actually giving him a chance to do something else. Why wasn’t she just sending his ass away? “I mean if this was all just a ploy to hear me beg there was so many other ways to make that happen.” Of course Kai went there. It wasn’t like he could actually reach out and hurt her now. Bonnie was in control and the Heretic was officially put on a leash. Kai wasn’t stupid. He knew how hard this was going to be. Not only was he just him but he was like a trouble magnet. It was going to be hard to change overnight and Kai wasn’t looking forward to any of it. His impulse control was shit. “Guess I’ll see you soon.” He pushed himself off the wall and watched her for a long moment not moving until the elevator doors opened and Bonnie stepped inside. When they closed Kai let a breath out that he hadn’t even noticed he was holding. What the hell was he going to do now? More importantly, how the hell did he get himself out of this? |
