Finn & Miller
challenge #2
today
Warnings: all kinds
Status: in progress

So much had happened and Finn didn't feel like he was part of his people anymore
After Echo's return from her death match Finn had been keeping a close eye on her. It was weird. Especially from the time that Finn came from, but Finn had weirdly gotten used to the grounder. Maybe it had something to do with the frame of mind that Finn was in lately.

Nothing seemed right. Everything was tense and awkward and Finn couldn't wrap his head around most things that were going on. Back home he was dead. He had no future when everything was said and done here, he knew that and nearly accepted it, but what he wished most was that he could remember everything that happened that led up to his death.

From what he had been told it wasn't pretty. There was a reason there was so much animosity between him and Murphy. A reason why it was hard for Clarke to look at him. So much had happened and Finn didn't feel like he was part of his people anymore.

It was a horrible feeling, but one he couldn't shake. Yes, he was being a dick to Murphy. But that only came natural. From what he knew Murphy was lucky that was all Finn was doing. But he couldn't change things and so he was getting close to others because what else could he do? Echo continued to give him side eye as he checked in on her before he crashed on his bed but that wasn't the shocking part.

The shocking part was when he rolled over and reached for his pillow only to find nothing but a bare sheet and cold air. In a flash Finn was sitting up and squinting in the dark room. Right away he knew he wasn't in his apartment and that had him scrambling to his feet.

"Oh, shit." Finn was waiting for his turn in these stupid challenges but it came before he was really ready for it. What the fuck was this? Was this a death match? The creepy house of horrors? The killer clown thing? He wasn't sure, but he knew the faster he got through this the faster he got back. Reaching for the door he pulled it open and paused when he heard footsteps coming down the hall.

Nate Miller still wasn't sure what to make of this place. It was a definite improvement from the place they'd come from, but it was a lot to adjust to. Before this, he'd been in the Second Dawn Bunker, waiting out the death wave that was going to destroy Earth for the second time, with 1500 other people. The Sky People, or Skaikru, was no longer a clan, because Octavia had decided they were now all one clan, or Wonkru. She'd won the Conclave, and now she was the new commander, so he guessed she had that right. It was kind of weird though. Miller was always used to Clarke being the de facto leader of their people. The adults might have the titles, but it was Clarke who'd been the one basically in charge since they'd been sent to the ground.

They'd been through a lot since they'd reached the ground, too. Those few months had felt like years and they'd lost way too many. Not just the delinquents, the original group of one hundred who'd been sent down, but so many others too. Including his own dad, as far as he knew. He wasn't one of those who made the cut to be in the bunker. It sucked, but tough choices had to be made and that was just how things were now.

This place, though, it seemed several of those they'd lost were here. It was both fucking with his head and a good thing at the same time. There were grounders here too. That was crazy too. Had to be even more fucked up for them, really. They'd had a little more modern stuff, on the Ark. Maybe not like the stuff here, but more than the grounders.

Now they were all here, together. None of that stuff really mattered anymore. They weren't fighting for their lives. Not really. Except for this fight they'd been brought here for. The rest of them had filled Miller in on things that had happened. There was some really messed up things that had happened, but it was still better than where they'd come from.

He just wished Bryan was here too.

Miller had been dreaming about Bryan when he woke with a start, looking around the dark room that had definitely not been the one he'd fallen asleep in. Shit. Was this one of those things the others had told him about? Where they were disappearing and being put through trials before being returned? This was just awesome.

At least he had some clothes to put on, which were lying at the end of the bed he'd woken up in, folded. Miller quickly put them on and laced up the combat boots he'd found there too. Once, he was dressed, Nate made his way down the hall.

"Hello?" He called out. "Anyone else here?"

The amusement that usually clung to Finn's handsome features was all but gone. Whatever the hell this was, it wasn't good. He had watched the network and read over and over again about how these challenges could be cruel and overly dangerous. Jasper had a fucking broken leg. Murphy had a broken arm. This wasn't going to be easy and Finn hated not knowing what the hell he was up against.

He expected anyone else to be tossed into this but the person he heard. Miller was brand new to this place. Would they really have taken him so quickly. Without giving him a real feel of this place? Finn didn't think it was fair and that only angered him more. Not only were these angels cruel bastards but they had tossed him into a challenge with someone who didn't even know what to expect when it came to how dangerous things could be.

The one real comfort that Finn had was that he knew Miller and knew that Miller was a fighter. Maybe they could make it through this after all.

"Miller?" Finn stepped out of the room and turned to see his friend coming down the hall. "Didn't expect to see you." He told him as he stepped forward and glanced back over his shoulder to make sure they were still safe for the time being. "You good?" He arched a brow. "Anything that way?"

Miller was careful as he made his way down the hall. Cautious even. He'd seen the aftermath and heard the tales of what happened when his friends had gone through these trials. It hadn't been good. He'd heard from Clarke how badly Lexa had been injured, after almost dying, and was still recovering. That last one he was still wrapping his head around. The grounder commander was still alive here. It was her death that had sent everything into a worse living hell than they were already dealing with on the ground. That's when all the clans went insane and started trying to fight for that hole that death had left.

But, no one jumped out and attacked him. Instead, Finn stepped out of a room and Miller, poised to jump, relaxed and smiled instead. It really had been good to see his friend. It had been so long since Finn had died. They'd lost a few at that point, since they'd arrived on the ground, but it was what happened with Finn that had shown them that the grounders were more than just the savages they'd thought they were. They had a leader who called all the shots and she was a girl barely older than they were. It had been Clarke who ended up killing Finn, an act of mercy before whatever those grounders had in store for him. It was his death that had acted as the beginning of the alliance they were making with these grounders.

Miller hadn't been there, he'd been in Mount Weather, with the other fourty-seven of his friends, but they'd filled him in. After Clarke had been forced to kill everyone inside the mountain when that same alliance was broken by their commander. Miller was angry, too, just like the rest of them, but he also kind of got it. He would've probably done the same thing to save his people. He knew Clarke would have too. Just like she killed everyone inside that mountain to save them. Miller had a lot of respect for Clarke. She made a lot of the hard choices and got a lot of shit for it.

"Yeah, I'm good." Miller flashed a wide grin at his friend. They were here, now. No more constantly fighting for their lives and watching more and more of their people die. Sure, they had these things to deal with, but this was much easier than whatever they might've faced back there.

It had to be. Right?

"Nothing back there. But, that doesn't mean there won't be. The others..." Miller's features darkened and he shook his head. "You've seen them. They went through hell. Clarke said Lexa almost died. At least this one doesn't seem to be us...fighting to the death. I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing." He chuckled, then heard a sound coming from the hallway he'd just come from.

Miller's eyes widened and he turned back to Finn. "Maybe I spoke too soon. Think there's another way out of here?"

Finn hated this. He hated being so far behind from everyone else. Part of that was due to the fact that he was dead and part of that was due to the angels pulling him from an easier time. The stories he heard didn't really make all that much sense to him but he knew better than to not believe them.

Had he lost himself? Finn couldn't see himself in that light. Not in the moment that he was in right now. He wasn't in love with Clarke. Did he crush majorly? Maybe a little, but part of him still cared deeply for Raven too. Didn't matter though, everyone had already moved on from Finn and his death and all Finn could do now was just try to survive here.

Which was why he needed to make it out of this challenge in one piece. Seeing Miller brought him a sense of relief but also a sense of sadness that he hid well. Miller was older. Wiser. It was just more proof that Finn was gone in their world. Still, Finn put on a smile for his friend and slowly nodded his head.

This place was home now and they had to do whatever they needed to in order to make it last. "Yeah, I know." His own eyes darkened at the thought and Finn spun on his heel in the direction of the noise. "Doesn't matter what happens. We make it out of here together." Because there was no way in hell that he was leaving his friend behind. "Come on, we gotta move. I don't want to meet whatever that is."

Miller wouldn't leave Finn behind either. Not now. Not ever. He was glad to have his friend back. He was even more glad they weren't pitted against each other. They could work together and get the hell out of this place. No matter what the angels threw at them, it stood no chance against the two of them. At least that's what Miller's bravado said anyway.

"Together." He nodded, flashing a toothy grin at the other guy. It was weird seeing him, he looked exactly the same as Miller remembered him. It had been a few months since Finn's death, but it felt like an eternity. It felt like another lifetime. Miller felt like he'd aged so much in that short amount of time. But he really hadn't. Not in terms of time anyway.

Finn suggested moving and Miller agreed with him. No way he wanted to meet whatever it was either. "This way." He nodded his head towards a door across the room. The sound behind them echoed again, sounding closer this time. He felt something whoosh by him and before he could see what it was, it came back towards him, moving low and knocking him off his feet. Miller landed on his back with a loud thud, letting out a groan as it knocked the breath out of him.

Rolling over on his stomach, he looked for it, to see if it was near Finn, to warn Finn. He saw movement, it was fast, but he could catch glimpses of it. It was moving right for Finn.

"Finn, watch out!" Miller cried out, throwing a hand up and watching, wide eyed as everything in his path went flying backwards. Including Finn. "What the hell was that?"

Finn didn't know what the hell to expect here but from what he had heard on the network he knew to expect literally anything. He just wanted to get this over as quickly as possible. Echo was still hurt from her own trial and he was keeping an eye on her. Plus, he didn't want this place fucking with his mind.

While he couldn't remember most of what everyone told him, he knew the angels were dicks and could still fuck with him. This is what this place did. They took your fears and played on them. Most of Finn's were hidden deep down and forgotten but that didn't mean that the angels wouldn't pull them out to play with him.

But Finn didn't have a lot of time to think about that. Not when something was rushing towards them at an incredible speed. Finn barely turned as Finn went down and he tried to get out of the way as the thing came at him next but the next thing he knew he was flying back and hitting the wall at full force. Only it wasn't from whatever was attacking them it was from Miller.

Finn groaned as he rolled onto his side and looked wide eyed at Miller. "Shit, Miller!" He knew he missed a lot but when was he able to do that? When the thing started to come back around at Finn he held out his hands to stop the impact when the fire started to ease out of his hands. It shot out as Finn turned his head and braced for the collision but it never came and all Finn could do was stare down at the burning creepy little monster.
