Lexi & Melaka
challenge #1

say you want a bad bi$ch, baby, now you have it
now you got the baddest, show me you can handle this

Since the news of Stefan's death and marriage was thrown on her Lexi had been keeping quiet. She didn't understand this place. Why did they have to make things so complicated? It wasn't like things back home weren't ever going to be found out. It just sucked that you knew there was no future to go back home to. This was all some people had. It was cruel and twisted and Lexi was just lost in her own head about things.

She threw herself into work and even that held it's own complications. Kai was a constant factor. He made Best LA his home away from home and went out of his way to fuck with her because she was connected to Claire. She constantly got the 20 questions from the Heretic about his 'little sister' and she was ready to strangle the cocky hybrid. Something had happened lately. Either Kai was kidnapped to one of the challenges or he was just off brooding somewhere because he hadn't shown up lately. It was a good thing for her but even then the bubbly vampire was exhausted by the time she got home and crashed onto the bed.

Lexi was the kind of person who could party all night and sleep all day if you really allowed her too, sleep came easy but when the hell did it get so cold? Any why the hell was she wet? Groaning, Lexi brought her hand to her face and her eyes shot open when she touched her face. "Oh, god." She mumbled as she sat up and looked around. It was dark as hell but Lexi could see clearly. Snow. Snow everywhere.

She had been paying attention to the network and knew it was only a matter of time before she disappeared for her own challenge but she was kind of hoping for the creepy house or the killer carnival. Why did it have to be snow? Pushing herself up, she shivered as she dusted herself off. On the bright side she was still in her skinny jeans but her tight tshirt did nothing to protect her from the harsh winds. "You've got to be kidding me?" She turned when she heard movement and tilted her head when she spotted Melaka. She didn't know the girl but she had seen her on the network.

"Hey, you okay?"

People were vanishing left and right. They reappeared and had weird tales to tell, but Mel barely paid attention. She spent an enormous amount of time looking up what priceless items were in the local museum and if there were any buyers out there. Old habits died hard. She was a master thief and her fingers were itching to fall back into that life. She had the chance to be somewhat normal in LA, a chance to live the good life, but she didn't think that was for her.

The Halloween party had been the first sign. She didn't belong in a world that partied and bounced back from weird happenings. Melaka was a criminal, a Slayer, and just a girl with a lot of issues. One of her current issues was the fact she was fucking cold. She pushed herself up off the ground and cursed her clothes. Last night she had bundled up in a stupid onesie with cat ears out of boredom, well that and it amused her, and now she was stuck on some snow covered mountain looking like a weirdo.

Great.

She trudged through the snow and glared at the person asking if she was okay.

"Fucking peachy," she wrapped her arms around her chest and tried not to shiver. As warm as her pajamas were, well, they weren't windproof. "Should have fallen asleep in my normal clothes with a weapon."

This type of shit never happened back home!

Melaka frowned as she glanced down the mountain. They were supposed to descend and then get attacked by monsters or something, wasn't that what everyone said? She was so over this type of thing. She was too stubborn to just sit down and die, but she really didn't want to have to fight something looking like a cat.

Quirking a brow at Melaka’s response, she couldn’t help but smirk. The girl had spunk but she was dressed in … a cat onesie. The last thing Lexi should have been was amused but the vampire couldn’t help herself. What the hell was going on right now?

She dusted the snow off her jeans and pushed her long blond hair back over her shoulders before finally pulling it up into a bun and glancing around. Melaka had the right idea by moving but Lexi was paying attention to their surroundings. The last thing they needed was to stumble upon something they weren’t ready for.

“There’s smoke coming from down the mountain. There’s gotta be a fire, and I don’t know about you but I’m ready to get my warm on.” She started off down the mountain and glanced at Melaka, “Do you normally sleep in kitty cat pjs?” This was an easy way for Lexi to get punched but she couldn’t take her eyes off the slayer.

It was only when they continued to walk that the ground slowly started to shake. Lexi stopped moving completely as she narrowed her eyes. No, the mountain wasn’t shaking, it was whatever that was walking towards them that was making it shake.

"Crap."

The Slayer fell into step behind the vampire easily, not even realizing Lexi was a vampire. She didn't have that fun gut feeling the other's got. Thanks, twin. She really only knew someone was a vampire if they vamped out in front of her. She was also way more used to the Lurkers. Grey, gross looking things that everyone had thought was just caused by the radiation. How wrong they had all been. Lurkers were vampires and her twin brother was now the fucking King of them.

"Do you normally wake up on a mountain," she countered with a death glare. The urge to punch was strong, but she resisted the urge since she was pretty sure they were supposed to work together. That and her punch could seriously injure a person, even a vampire.

Lexi may not have been a fan of the shaking or what it meant, but an almost delighted look appeared Mel's face. Now, this was something she could deal with! She pushed the hood back on her cat onesie, her multi-colored hair blowing in the wind as she took off running towards the danger. She was good at one thing and that was fighting. Melaka could dish out the damage and she could take it as well.

She didn't stop running as the demon erupted from the trees. Larger than Urkonn, but looked so like him. Twisted horns, cloven feet, bright red skin that stood out against the stark white snow. Mel screamed her rage as she barely looked as she bent to pick up a weapon that was just laying on the snow. The ax fit easily in her hands as she jumped hard just as the demon did. They collided with a thunderous clap that sent snow flying everywhere.

The ax went flying from her hands and landed hard on the ground, handle sticking up, but Mel managed not to go flying. She had landed on the demon's head, gripping to a horn in an attempt not to fall.

"The ax," she yelled as she held a hand out in a demanding manner towards Lexi.

All the anger of Urkonn's betrayal was bubbling up inside of her. She could see Loo's broken body on her apartment floor. He had done it and pretended it had been Lurkers all so she would fight in his stupid war. She had made his death quick, but this demon she was going to make suffer.

It wasn't just that the slayer couldn't sense she was a vampire. Lexi was good at hiding who and what she was when she wanted to. Truth was, Lexi payed close attention to the network despite not being overly active on it. The place was like some twistef version of Melrose Place and all she had to do was read it to keep herself entertained.

But Lexi had put things together. Slayers. Watchers. Hunters. They were everywhere. She was smart to hide what she was because wanted to keep her ass alive. She dealt with enough having Kai constantly around. She didn't need hunters on her ass again too.

Lexi smirked at her counter and she shrugged her shoulders. "Well, here? You never know where you're going to wake up to be honest." She eyed Melaka over once more before things were turning for them.

"This bitch is crazy." Lexi half muttered as she watched the young girl rush towards the danger instead of away from it. From where Lexi stood Melaka knew exactly what she was doing and that gave her a sense of relief but also a sense of fear. Who the hell had the angels paired her up with here?

In a blur Lexi moved across the snow and snatched up the ax. She moved towards the large beast that Melaka was clinging on to only to have it reach out with leg and send Lexi flying. Once she hit the tree Lexi's face changed.

The veins formed and her fangs glinted in the light and she was quickly back on her feet tossing Melaka the ax as she started to distract the monster so Melaka coukd get in a good swing.

Mel gripped the horn tighter as she kicked down with a slippered foot. There wasn't the great feeling of combat boots connecting with flesh, but she could still do a bit of damage. She winced in sympathy as Lexi went flying backward like a rag doll.

Another one.

She had failed someone else. This was why she didn't label herself a hero. She got people killed because she was never fast enough to stop them from dying. Wasn't that why her twin brother was now some King of Vampires? He was out to destroy the world around her and she didn't blame him one bit. If she had been faster that day, if she had tried harder. A yell of anger escaped her as she began to pull hard on the horn she was holding. The demon roared in pain and tried to toss her free.

Her gaze landed on Lexi and she felt her eyes widen. The woman wasn't human. Mel flung her hand out and caught the ax easily. She did a backflip off the demon, making sure to let her feet connect hard with the demon's chin. The sound of bones shattering filled her ears as she landed in the snow. She cast a look at Lexi before hefting the ax and taking a hard swing. Urkonn always said to remove the head, but she was pissed off. It was time to take a little anger out.

"This is for Loo," she yelled as the ax bit hard into the demon's side. Mel pushed her weight into the thrust as she did her best to cleave the large demon in two. Blood went spraying everywhere, ruining her onesie. Damn it! She ripped the ax free and took another swing just as the demon brought a fist down. The Slayer stumbled down to a knee under the weight, but she refused to let go of the ax.

The pain that erupted in her body let her know her shoulder was most likely broken, but she'd heal. Melaka was great at fighting and even better at healing. She didn't have the healing of a vampire, but she was still going to be back up and kicking in a few days if she actually took it easy. She wouldn't.

With a final swing, one that sent all sorts of bodily fluids flying, she cut through the demon completely. The two halves hit the ground just as she completely fell to both knees. The ax slipped from her fingers as she let her injured arm hang limply at her side.

"Okay, at least that was interesting."

The entire scene that played out was like something from some b-list horror movie. Lexi had never seen anything like this horned beast and that was saying something, since the vampire had seen a lot in her time.

The more interesting part was Melaka. The girl was like some super warrior. She treated the monster as if this was something she had dealt with on a daily basis and Lexi found it hard to look away when she tore into the beast over over again.

When it started to bring it's first down Lexi sprung into action. She grabbed onto one of the large horns and bent it backwards with all her strength. The ax continued to swing down over and over and finally Lexi heard a loud crack followed by the sickest roar of pain she had ever heard as the horn was torn off the thing's head.

Lexi fell back to the ground and glanced up just as Melaka had made the final blow and cut through the demon. Her eyes widened for a split moment as she rose to her feet and took a few steps forward. "Holy shit." She mumbled shaking her head.

It was only when she was close enough that she finally saw the damage that Melaka had taken. "That looks nasty." She already knew how much pain Melaka was in by the look on her face. "I can heal that for you." Because making peace with the slayer was one way to keep her from ripping her apart too.

"I've had worse," the Slayer remarked as she shoved herself back up to her feet. She clutched her bad arm with a hand and pushed up hard. The popping noise filled her ears just as pain raced down her back. Well, that wasn't quite like popping it back into its socket. Yeah, her shoulder was broken.

Melaka blinked slowly and turned to face Lexi.

"You...want to heal me?" That was the strangest thing she had heard in a long time and she couldn't help laughing. "Jesu, are you taking me for a spin?"

She shook her head as she leaned over to pick up the ax again with her good hand. "Thanks, but no thanks right now. If we run into anything else nasty I'll think about it." She hefted the ax up and rested it on her shoulder before she took off walking again. There wasn't that urge in her to just behind Lexi. The other was safe along as she didn't try to hurt Mel. Probably the worst Slayer in history right there, not just lobbing off the lurker's head without asking questions.

Melaka couldn't be bothered to care at the moment.

Her focus was to get down the mountain without dying. If Lexi got in her way than the ax would come into play again. Otherwise? They were going to have a sort of rough alliance. She took a few more steps and a wave of lightheadedness hit her. The stubborn Slayer stumbled again. She brought the ax down and leaned heavily against the handle.
