Kate was glad that if she had to be stuck somewhere, at least she had Seth with her. She kept thinking that one day Richie might show up too. But so far, he hadn't. Neither had Scott. It had just been her and Seth. And he'd been on his own before she showed up, but she wasn't sure for how long. It was weird, because she'd just seen him before she got here. But time just seemed to work differently here. She wasn't sure why, but it was the only explanation she could think of. She was glad she'd missed the death matches. That wasn't something she would have wanted to be part of. Amaru might have been a bloodthirsty monster, but Kate wasn't. Still, she had to live with everything Amaru had done. And that was not easy. She was taking it a day at a time, but it still haunted her. She didn't know if it would ever stop. She just knew she couldn't be the perfect little preacher's daughter and go back to Bethel like nothing happened, like her entire life hadn't been turned upside down. None of them had emerged from their experiences unscathed, but Kate had literally been to Hell and back. She tried not to think about it too much here. She tried to focus on other things. And when the demons started showing up after the quake, she was so worried she might have to face Amaru. But that hadn't happened, at least not yet. Amaru was gone, hopefully forever. The damage she'd done to Kate's psyche would take longer to heal but at least she wasn't alone. That was a comfort. Had she ended up here on her own, she might not have handled things so well. But she had Seth, and she and Seth had been through some terrible things together. So it helped to have him around, he understood. She'd gotten home early enough to make some dinner. She wasn't sure where Seth was at the moment, but figured he'd be back soon. So she made them a nice meal of fajitas and rice. Kate was used to cooking, she used to help her mom with it. That felt like so long ago now. But she was happy to be doing something that felt normal for once. Even if any aspect of normal here was just a lie. |
