Being in Los Angeles was kind of getting to Veronica. But that was mainly because she couldn't get home. She couldn't even contact home. So she didn't know if her dad was okay or not. He'd been in the hospital before she ended up here, having saved her from Aaron Echolls. Veronica didn't like thinking about that night. She didn't like thinking about how Aaron had bashed Lilly's head in with the ash tray. But she was worried about Keith, and she hoped to get back to him soon.

But days had faded into weeks, and now she'd been there almost a month. She should have been in school, at home. But here she was, trapped in some angel's idea of a war game? At least she had Backup. That might have been her one comfort. Oh, Veronica didn't complain much on the network like other people. It wasn't really her style. But she was less than happy about being here. Oh well, it seemed no one had been able to figure out how to get them all home yet.

Keeping busy helped, and she was no stranger to doing that. Maybe she didn't have school, but she had lots of other things to keep her busy, and Backup was one of them. He was a very energetic dog who liked to go for several walks a day. And sometimes at night too. Veronica had gotten back from work pretty late, but she figured it was a good idea to take him out. She wasn't too concerned about getting in trouble because no one was likely to mess with a girl with a pit bull, and she had a taser for extra protection.

As they were walking, Backup started barking and wagging his tail, pulling Veronica along. Veronica was a pretty tiny girl and Backup was strong, so right now it was more like he was walking her. Backup didn't stop until he was in front of a tall blonde, looking up at her and wagging his tail. Veronica nearly fell over when they stopped.

"Sorry." She said. "Overenthusiastic dog. He's harmless though." Unless Veronica told him not to be.
