WHO: Jeremy and Cisco
WHAT: Letting off steam
WHEN: After the earthquake
WHERE: A bar and maybe karaoke because that's what grown men do, duh?
WARNINGS: Jeremy’s seeing dead people. Again.
It was crazy that one second, the city was decimated. It was really bad. And then the next, it was as if nothing ever happened. Was this what the angels plans were? He heard about the death match. And now an earthquake? Something didn't seem right to Jer about that but he wasn't going to question it because everyone was safer at this point. And besides, that just meant he could go out and not have to worry for a moment. But he was worried. About his sister and about Bonnie. His sister because Kai was here. Anything was possible. Not only Kai, but Katherine and Klaus were around too. It was never ending. Just their past on repeat, but of course, nobody could outrun their past. It always caught up to them. Not only that but history already repeated itself in form or the other. So basically, in Jeremy's eyes, they were fucked.
Right now though, he was walking through LA while Elena and Damon were being Elena and Damon. He didn't want to be around for that and instead, he had left the building to go and search for something to do. Which of course, led him to a sports bar that happened to have karaoke. Not that Jeremy was interested in singing. But he was interested in watching. Right about now, he wished Tyler and Matt was here, but Tyler was dead and he could only guess that Matt was back in Mystic Falls, doing the Sheriff thing that he took so seriously. As he should, but sometimes it was fun to tease him.
Luckily, Jeremy was old enough now. He didn't need a fake ID. He ordered himself a beer and a plate of potato skins before he ventured out into the crowd where the tables were and sat himself down. Whoever was on stage was doing a poor rendition of what he could only assume was Memories from Cats. And he couldn't believe he knew that.
"Geez," he sighed and glanced over with a sigh as he held onto his beer and he frowned. Sitting up a little in his seat, he swore he saw Tyler but as Jeremy got up from his seat, he was gone. He looked around but then saw someone else, someone who he guessed could have looked like him. Maybe his eyes were just playing tricks because, well, he missed him. He shifted his gaze and saw someone else looking at him, probably thinking that Jeremy was looking at him the whole time. Jeremy made a face and sat down, just as Memories ended.
LA should have been like this epic vacation from his life, but it was far from that. Cisco knew he hadn’t asked to be yanked into some angel war and that none of them had. He had just been hoping something would have been normal about this place. A break from the chaos back home even. It wasn’t. God, this place was actually worse than Central City. Barry had come and gone, Kara was off making herself a martyr, and he didn’t know what was going on with Oliver.
Cisco had decided to try and take a break from his thoughts that evening so that was how he found himself in a bar. He sat at a table by himself, nursing a glass of some bright colored drink. There wasn’t an umbrella, but it probably deserved one. He felt like shit and the crazy earthquake hadn’t helped anything. Of course it wasn’t like this weird city could even let the destruction stay because why would it?
Caitlin would have loved this place. H.G. probably would have as well, he could picture them singing off key like that person that was butchering the current song. Cisco leaned back in his seat as he let his thoughts wander to his friends. Were they okay? Was Iris okay? Everything back home was a mess, but he wasn’t sure it was Angel LA 2.0 messed up.
He was about to take another swig of his fruity drink, Cisco didn’t care it wasn’t manly, and he paused. A flash of white hair caught his attention and he was sitting up straight. He tried to get a better look and instead he just found himself meeting eyes with someone else in the bar. Well, that wasn’t awkward at all. He gave a sheepish smile before slouching in his seat more.
“I’m going insane,” he told his fruit drink and reached for it again. His fingers just brushed it when the killer headache hit him. The drink went flying off the table as he got a vibe of Caitlin in LA somewhere. That wasn’t right, that wasn’t right at all. He came back to the moment to half the bar staring at him and he could only stare back.
“Uh, I’m here every Friday?” He flourished a bow to hide his discomfort.
Jeremy decided that seeing Tyler was a fluke and he went back to his beer as he waited for the next song to start. That was when something strange happened. He noticed out of the corner of his eye that guy he was looking at before seemed to spaz. His drink when flying off the table and Jeremy sat up a little straighter.
Great, just what he needed. He couldn’t just ignore it like everyone else seemed to be doing. Jeremy managed to get himself up and grab his beer before walking through the crowd over to him. Which could have been awkward considering they had just locked eyes, but it was totally nothing like that.
“Hey, are you alright?” He asked as he stood in front of the guy.
Jeremy had a weird feeling, even with everything going on around them. He just felt off and that’s when he saw him again. He saw Tyler. He was walking toward him and then a girl walked in front of him. Then he was gone. He swore he heard a whisper, or maybe it was in his head, everything felt fuzzy for a second. You can’t save him. Just like you couldn’t save me.
It felt like a punch to the gut. Jeremy tried to keep himself composed, but he felt off. He took a sip of his beer as if that would help.
Cisco just wanted to be left alone with his non manly drink. Oliver would have shaken his head at the mere sight of the drink, but he didn’t care. It tasted good and he needed something sweet in his life right now. He sat back down, picked up his drink, and tried not to stare at anyone else.
Was his power going off just some weird fluke? It wasn't like he had touched something that was linked to Caitlin. He had just been sitting there, minding his own business. He frowned slightly and wondered if he was finally losing it thanks to LA. Accidentally killing Claire had left a mark on him. He could still hear the sound of her being impaled and he was pretty sure that wasn’t something he was going to forget.
The sound of a voice had him looking up at the guy he had accidentally locked eyes with. Oh, well, awkward.
“I’m fine…” He tried to give a reassuring smile, but he was pretty sure he had a slightly freaked out look on his face. If his powers were malfunctioning now he didn’t know what he was going to do. It wasn’t like Oliver or Kara could really help him. He was going to have to see if there were any other metahumans around, something he wasn’t looking forward to doing. “But thanks for, uh, worrying?”
There was no way Caitlin or Killer Frost was in LA. She would have let him know, one way or another.
“Did you want to like sit down or something? I’m Cisco.” Okay, he was not hitting on the guy. Just trying to make a friend in a place where he was losing most of his.
“No, I mean - yeah, no problem.” Okay, this just got even more awkward. He held onto his beer and contemplating just walking away because at this point, it seemed like the right thing to do, the guy - Cisco - asked him if he wanted to sit down. And fuck it, it was better actually talking to someone than sitting like a loser in a karaoke bar. He knew he should have at least dragged Elena out of the apartment.
Jeremy was still feeling out of sorts with what Tyler had said to him. He couldn’t save him, him being who he assumed to be Cisco. The thing with Tyler was, he wasn’t there. So he had no idea that Damon would be compelled by a siren and then murdered. Was he pissed at Damon because of it? Yeah. He remembered at home, the two of them had a talk about it. Honestly, Jeremy was just tired of the excuse of being compelled or not having humanity. It was always something and it was always considered a free pass. Not with him and not anymore. He was over that.
“So, you’re one of the displaced right? You’re one of the people in the complex?” He was just taking a chance here. He had no idea because he had never seen Cisco before in his life. “Anyway, I just got to LA about a week or so ago. Found out my sister’s been here for about a month.” She had told him about the things that happened here but now he felt like he was experiencing the crazy on his own. Which he wanted to ask Cisco about but waited. He at least wanted to find out if he was like … one of them. He wasn’t sure at this point.
Displaced.
Well, that was certainly one way to put it, but it made Cisco think of some fantasy novel or Sci-Fi movie. Which, in truth, was pretty much what their lives were in this place. Hell, he had lived in a Sci-Fi novel back home, but this was different.
“Yeah, man, I’m one of the displaced complex people.”
He studied the guy in front of him and nothing screamed metahuman. There was a way to find out, but he didn’t want to just run around vibing people. Plus he knew he got a weird look on his face when he got caught up in the vibe. He raised an eyebrow at the guy. A week or two? Damn. That meant he had only heard about the death match, didn’t know what this place was really like. Talking about the death match and living through it were two completely different things.
“I’ve been here about a month,” he finally admitted. “Woke up here one day and that was it. I’ve seen my friends come and go, so I guess there is a getting out of here, just not sure how. The angels, if that is what they are, seem to be the ones who control arrivals and departures.”
He wanted Barry back. God, there was so many people Cisco wanted around, but he wouldn’t wish this place on anyone. If Caitlin was here, actually here, then he was worried about her. He had seen the flash of white and that meant she had her powers. What damage would she cause? Would she cause damage?
“This place….is insane.”
“This place is insane, but I’m kind of used to it by now. Insane is part of my life so this is just something else.” Which was the truth. Coming from Mystic Falls kind of gave him a head start unlike some of the people here who were learning about the supernatural for the first time. It sucked that Cisco’s friends were coming and going. The only thing that really made him okay about being here was Elena. If she wasn’t here, then he probably would have been more on edge. Just getting her back again only to lose her? Yeah, he didn’t want to experience that again.
“I know a lot of people here. It kind of makes me wonder how the angels pick and choose who they bring,” he said and held onto his beer.
The song ended and the place erupted with cheers and jeers from the crowd. He looked back to see what was going on and that’s when he saw Tyler again. Jeremy turned a little more in his seat to get a better look at him and that’s when he noticed it. His pitch black eyes.
“Cisco,” he started, his back toward him. “Look ahead, the guy near the stage looking at us,” Trying to be nonchalant. He hoped that Cisco would catch on. “Doesn’t seem normal does it?” He turned back around and looked at him. When he saw his reaction, Jeremy frowned. “That’s what I’m seeing. That’s my best friend, but it ... “ He shook his head and looked back, watching as Tyler walked toward the door.
“I should go find him,” he said and got up.
“I know like two people here,” Cisco admitted. He had known more people, but they vanished. He didn’t know how the angels decided or what was the criteria, but he knew he probably wouldn’t like the answer.
The uproar at the song ending was harsh to the ears. Sure, there were some cheers, but it all blended together. He really should have just stayed home tonight or something. He just hadn’t wanted to sit in his apartment doing nothing. He blinked as Jeremy addressed him and he leaned back in his seat slightly to look where he was told to look. Oh, hello creepy eyes. His eyebrows shot up in surprise as he felt a chill go through his body. Black eyes were never a good thing.
“Wait, you’ve been seeing that-”
And Jeremy was getting up to follow the horror movie eyes guy. No, nope, not a good idea. Cisco downed his drink in one go and quickly hurried after the other guy. “Dude,” he hissed out slightly. “Horror movie 101. Don’t travel alone.” He had no idea what he was getting himself into, but he wasn’t helpless. Cisco had his powers, not that Jeremy knew that.
If he could get close enough to Tyler than he could vibe the dude and figure out what was going on.
Yeah, that’s what Jeremy had been seeing and the whole thing didn’t make any sense. Jeremy wasn’t vulnerable, he knew about the supernatural. He knew more than he had ever wanted to and now it was his life. This was what he did. Whatever that was? It wasn’t Tyler. It couldn’t be - right? When Cisco got up and told him not to go alone, Jeremy shook his head.
“It’s okay, dude, I got this. This is what I do.” It wasn’t like Jeremy just went around talking about it, but right now, he felt like it needed to be said. Nonetheless, it didn’t stop the other man from going with him. He had no idea that Cisco had his own powers and right now, all Jeremy could think about was that he was going to have to protect Cisco from whatever this was.
They walked out the side door to the bar, following Tyler and ended up in an alley. It was dark and empty and Jeremy looked around.
“Come on, Tyler. What is this? Hide and seek?” He called out, a little annoyed as he looked around.
Jeremy took a breath and turned, looking at Cisco but he saw Tyler behind him. Before Jeremy could react, Cisco was literally lifted and flown against the dumpster.
“What the hell, man!?” Jeremy looked at Tyler then and Tyler just smiled.
“What? I’m not here for him, man. It’s cool. He’ll live,” Tyler glanced over at Cisco before looking back at Jeremy.
“You on the other hand, well … not so sure about that.”
Hitting a dumpster was way more painful in real life than it looked in the movies. Cisco could only groan as he tumbled forward to the ground. His palms hit the gravel and he winced. Jesus, his whole back felt like it was just one giant bruise now! How the Hell did Barry put up with this type of thing?
Tyler was clearly not human.
He pushed himself up, slowly, and blew some hair out of his face. Ow, that still hurt. He was distracted from his pain when Jeremy was pretty much threatened by his supposed best friend. Well, shit, he didn’t have his gear, but he wasn’t about to let whatever Tyler was end up hurting up some dude. Cisco threw a hand up and focused. The air rippled as the blast left his hand. Tyler looked up just in time for him to get a face full of vibe. Cisco didn’t waste time as he ran up to Jeremy and grabbed his arm. The headache slammed him right away as he vibed on accident.
Holy shit.
“Whoa, okay. Clearly you can protect yourself, but I have a bad feeling so we need to go now.” He threw a hand behind him and forced a portal open. They couldn’t go far and was slightly nervous. The last time someone had gone through his portal they had ended up dead, but that had been an accident. “Come on, man!”
They needed to run.
What the hell was going on? Between Tyler and his black eyes and the Cisco and whatever he was doing to ward off Tyler, Jeremy was confused as hell but right now? But he couldn’t just stand around. Tyler was his problem, not Cisco’s and Jeremy had told him to stay back. Now it was too late as Cisco was in the middle of it all and Jeremy didn’t have time to even try and turn him back. Not when he was essentially getting Jeremy out of the alley.
“What is that?” He asked, never seeing a portal before and he looked at Cisco and then at Tyler who was just now starting to get up. He didn’t know what the hell Tyler was and he wanted to find out, but right now he wasn’t going to find out anything. Not with whatever was taking over Tyler’s body.
“We have to find out what’s going on.” But Jeremy didn’t want to stay behind to see what else this Tyler could do. When Tyler started getting up, Jeremy reached for his gun, pulling it out of its holster and he aimed it. He never went without it.
Before he could pull the trigger though, he felt himself being pulled into the portal.
They landed near the apartment complex, Cisco bouncing slightly as he landed. He was much more use to portal travel so he quickly turned to steady Jeremy as he exited the portal. “Okay, sorry about the sudden Stargate like travel, but that was not a good situation.”
The vibe he was getting from Tyler was really not good. He hadn’t reached out and touched the other guy, but he knew his mind was screaming that it was danger. Extreme danger. Those black eyes were far from normal.
His gaze shifted to the gun and he just kind of gave a slight nod. Made sense. Cisco was used to seeing people with weapons, had even designed a few in his time, so it wasn’t like it was a crazy sight. At least he knew Jeremy could protect himself. “Okay, so, pretty sure that thing is totes going to follow us. We probably have a few minutes, if we are lucky, to come up with a game plan. He wasn’t human and I feel like my mind needs lots of bleach to get his aura out of it.”
Cisco didn’t have much experience with demons so he didn’t realize Tyler was one. He didn’t know the flashes of Caitlin he was seeing were also a demon. Sadly, he was going to learn.
“We can either go straight back to him and try to get the drop or we can try and surprise him here. I can portal us back if you really want, but I am going to need to use you as the anchor cause otherwise I am flying blind.”
“Whoa, that was …” Kind of awesome. Actually, it was a lot awesome. Cisco could use portals? What the hell was this? Dr. Who? Either way, at the moment Jeremy was really grateful but he knew it wasn’t over yet. Tyler could show up anywhere, anytime and then what? Jeremy knew it wasn’t his friend, it wasn’t Tyler but this was something new that he hadn’t gone up against yet. The only thing he could think of really was the travelers but even then, he didn’t think that was what this was.
“I think we should let him come to us,” Jeremy said, wanting to be ready for whenever Tyler just showed up. He looked up at the complex and then at Cisco.
“How did you do that? Who are you?” He smiled a little because it was cool. And because he knew that would come in handy in the future.
“And dude, you might need to do it again,” Because straight ahead, there was Tyler. “There has to be a way to kill him.” Jeremy still had his gun out but now he was in front of the building where they lived. Well, screw it. This was what he did. He hunted things although now, it seemed like he was the one who was being hunted at this point.
“You really think you can kill me, man?” He asked, walking right toward them.
“You’re not Tyler,” Jeremy yelled out. “And I know that,” he said, raising the gun to pull the trigger.
Cisco couldn’t help grinning just a little bit proudly. He flicked some hair over his shoulder and tried not to look too smug. “Name’s Cisco and I have some nifty powers, but not a lot of time to go into that right now.”
He could see the guy Tyler walking towards them.
So not fun.
He moved behind Jeremy, taking the sidekick role automatically. He wasn’t the superhero, that belonged to Barry or Oliver or anyone else. He was always the one behind the computer screens or just helping over the comms. Okay, yes, lately he had been going out in the field more. This was kind of different now, there was some dude with creepy black eyes. The sound of the gun going off rang loudly, but Cisco was already throwing a hand out. A portal opened up behind the Tyler guy. The impact of the bullet sent the dude flying into the portal.
“Make it raaaaain,” Cisco said as he promptly threw his hand up to create a new portal high up in the sky. Tyler came hurtling out of it and had to deal with a long fall. “Probably shouldn’t be joking in a time like this. Sorry, can’t always help myself.”
When this was all over he was fully planning on asking Jeremy all sorts of questions about that whole hunter thing. Vampires, werewolves, and hybrids, oh my! Totally stuff out of a video game and he wanted to learn so much more.
When Tyler went flying back into the portal, Jeremy thought it was over and even managed to take a breath of relief before looking at Cisco, and smiling a little. He didn’t care that he was joking around, as long as they were stopping this fake Tyler demon, then Cisco could do whatever the hell he wanted. He didn’t know what he would have done if it was just him against Tyler. Cisco had helped a lot and all Jeremy had was a gun on him. The gun wasn’t even going to kill him and the fact that the demon had telekinetic powers wasn’t helping Jeremy out either.
“Demon - right? Like that girl’s post?” He asked, looking at Cisco before looking up at the sky. He didn’t remember her name, but he did remember that she was being helpful when it came to this. They didn’t need it though because by the time Tyler hit the ground hard, his body was literally broken and whatever was inside of him didn’t like that. Suddenly, black smoke shot out of Tyler’s mouth and then his body disappeared.
Jeremy just looked at spot where Tyler was before walking over to it. There was an indent where his body had fallen, like he had actually been there and Jeremy felt like shit. Standing up again, he looked at Cisco.
“I think I need a drink,” he said.
