Mal was barely adjusting to being in Los Angeles. She couldn't reach anyone from Auradon, and the only people here that she knew couldn't stand her. And the feeling was very mutual to some degree. She did feel bad for them, honestly. They were stuck on the Isle while she and the others were living it up in Auradon. But being good was hard work too. Ben was trying to change things, but even King's decrees took time. And none of that even mattered here. Mal was on her own. Uma had Harry, CJ, and now even Gil. She couldn't help being a bit jealous of that. And she'd let Harry get under her skin too, which really bugged her. When it came to the villain kids, Mal knew she used to be the worst of the worst. But Auradon had changed her. Ben had changed her. She was no longer the girl who didn't care about anyone but herself and being wicked. And here she was learning, that was dangerous. But try as she might, Mal couldn't go back to her old self. She could handle being here alone. That wasn't an issue. But she did miss her friends and her boyfriend. She couldn't help being upset that Uma had her crew and Mal had no one. It was fine, Mal would be okay on her own. It just would have been nice if she didn't have to be. An earthquake had devastated the city and people were panicking. In a way, it reminded Mal of when she'd been on the Isle. People all around in turmoil. Was this a regular thing here? Mal didn't know because she hadn't been here long enough to really experience anything yet. But she was here now, and the earthquake had scared even her. It actually made her a bit glad her friends weren't there so they didn't have to experience it too. Even if the earthquake itself didn't last long, the aftermath would be harder to get through. Mal felt useless as she wandered through the streets, helping who she could when she could. If only she had her book, she might have this all fixed in a jiffy. Then again, her spells did tend to go horribly wrong at least 85% of the time, so maybe it was better that she didn't have it with her now. |
