WHO Enzo and Bonnie |
Enzo stared at the menu he was holding as he tried to focus on just what to order. He was having a bit of a hard time concentrating since his attention kept getting drawn to the witch sitting across from him. He tapped a finger against the menu before placing it down on the table. He raised an eyebrow in question as he studied Bonnie. Something was ruffling her feathers. “Not your cup of tea, love? I can find us a new place to eat.” He leaned back slightly in his chair and gave her a faint smirk. This wasn’t the Paris he wanted to give her, but this wasn’t some cheap diner either. They had actually had to dress up to eat at this place. Sure, he could have just compelled them a table while they wore shirts and jeans, but where was the fun in that? He rather liked it when Bonnie wore a dress. This was his attempt at distracting her from the death match. Well, that and he was distracting himself. A bunch of whiny teenagers hated him now because he had snapped one pretty little neck. Naturally that meant people were jumping to their defense and it was bloody annoying. Enzo was far from a saint, but it wasn’t like he had been cruel! The angels had asked for death and he had merely delivered. No reason to hate his guts! “Bonnie,” he finally said softly. “Something you need to talk about?” It was probably that annoying Kai. That seemed to be his witch’s favorite topic later. Not that he didn’t like to hear that she wanted to murder Kai all over again, but sometimes even he wanted to talk about other things. “Or are we going to decide on a wine to drink? Because I am thinking a nice red,” he flashed her a smile full of his teeth. “Something with a bit of body, if you know what I mean, gorgeous.” There were so many things buzzing around Bonnie’s mind. It wasn’t really all just about Kai, either. Kai she could deal with because Kai was just a nuisance in her life. She had trapped the heretic in a prison world all over again before arriving to LA. Kai was supposed to be rotting somewhere but now here he was, somehow not trapped in a city where they were all trapped in. Bonnie couldn’t even think about how screwed up it all was. Every time Bonnie looked at Enzo she pictured him as how she saw him before - a ghost. A figment of her own imagination. A spirit attached to her soul that wouldn’t depart to find peace. There wasn’t an Other Side back home anymore to haunt so funny for Enzo to find a loophole and haunt Bonnie because, well, Enzo was dead. Her Enzo was gone. It was hard to look at Stefan sometimes because it was obvious that he didn’t know. None of them knew about what happened and Bonnie kept it to herself. What could she say? That they were all trying to stop Katherine from unleashing Hell on Mystic Falls? Literally Hell. Bonnie had just stopped the hellfire from destroying the town when she arrived. Bonnie couldn’t help but feel like she had failed somehow. Fast forward to now - to dinner with her boyfriend who was dead but not dead. Bonnie couldn’t tell him either and she knew it was lying but how could she? How could she just ruin everything by telling Enzo that they weren’t together in the future because there wasn’t one for them? “No, I’m good. Just a little shaken.” Bonnie wasn’t exactly telling a lie although she wasn’t about to explain what was rattling her. “I’m sure once I get a drink or two in me I’ll be fine.” Enzo honestly wouldn't have been surprised to hear he had died. After all, he had died before and come back. The problem now was that there was no Otherside and that meant death was final. He would have been upset for Bonnie though, it seemed his girl always got the short end of the stick. Her little friends were always looking out for themselves and from his point of view they used Bon. He merely inclined his head when she said she was shaken. A hand came up and he waved down a waiter. It would have been easy to just compel them a drink, but he was behaving. Once the waiter arrived he requested a bottle of wine with two glasses. The second the waiter was gone Enzo turned his gaze back to Bonnie. “Let’s try and enjoy the evening, love. If there is something you do need to talk about, well, you know I am all ears for you.” Enzo wasn't Team Mystic Falls, he was Team Bonnie. Sure, he’d help them out because they were Bonnie and Damon’s friends, but at the end of the day he would betray them all to protect his girl. “The prime rib looks good,” he drawled out to see if she'd respond. Bonnie knew that she could hide behind her fear of Kai taking everything from her but Bonnie had a plan for that. One that unfortunately did not involve Enzo because she couldn’t risk him. Anything that seemed remotely dangerous was something that Bonnie wanted to get rid of. Whether that meant that she had to bloody her hands or figure out a way to send Kai to another prison world where he could rot for all eternity. She knew that Enzo would be upset if he knew she was keeping him out of the loop but at the same time the less Enzo knew the safer he was going to be. Bonnie did sacrifice a lot in her young years but not anymore. She had no intentions of letting anyone stop her from protecting the people that mattered most and right now that was Enzo. “I just missed you,” Bonnie said, smiling because she was afraid that if she showed another kind of emotion that the tears would come and then she wouldn’t be able to lie anymore. “Just so much has happened between us and I almost killed you. I could literally taste it.” But then Bonnie lost Enzo anyway to the Siren. God, she hated feeling so weak when it came to helping him during that time. The prime rib did look good but right now she was focused on talking to the man she was in love with. It was strange how her feelings for Enzo changed so drastically but at the same time he was the only person who regarded her wants as important. Everyone else seemed to take advantage of her when the time came for a needed witch. Bonnie was tired of it. She didn’t want to be anyone else’s way out of problems although she knew it would be hard to ignore the calling of her friends. Taking a long sip from her wine glass, Bonnie wiped the corner of her lip with her thumb as she regarded Enzo for a moment. A part of her almost wanted to cut all of this short so that they could just go back to their shared apartment but there were other things they needed to talk about. “I really want to find a way out of here but it’s difficult. I don’t know what sort of magic is being used to keep us here but it’s strong. Stronger than anything I’ve ever felt.” Bonnie believed that it was magic - it had to be since the barrier itself seemed magical in nature. Enzo still bore the mark from Bonnie. It was blazing over his heart and it tied him to a version of her that wanted to yank his heart from his chest. She had gotten another chance at life thanks to one of the many souls of Rayna Cruz, but that bitch of a hunter had failed to mention the Bonnie go hunter clause. He didn’t know why the mark wasn’t vanishing, but he wasn’t going to worry too hard. This place was full of strange magic and he didn’t know enough to spend too much time dwelling on things he couldn’t control. “Of course you missed me,” he said smiling back at her. “I mean, it is me we are talking about.” His tone was teasing and light, but there was something darker in his eyes. He was worried about Bonnie, but he didn’t want to press her. “And, gorgeous, you are hardly the first person to try and kill me.” Only one person had succeeded in killing him and that person had gotten a little help. Enzo had literally walked backward so Stefan held his heart. Not his finest moment, but he had done it to make Damon hate Stefan. God, nothing could really make those two turn against each other and it annoyed him. They weren’t good for each other and they still came back to each other over and over. He pursed his lips together for a second before picking up his own glass to take a sip. “Perhaps, love,” he swirled the glass around slightly in his hand as he thought over the matter. “There are other witches here. You lot can start a little Sunday club, wear fun hats, and work your witchy powers to sort this all out. Though, let’s be real here. You are more powerful than any person here. I’ll help the best I can, but it might just be turning pages for you.” Enzo knew he wasn’t magically inclined. He was a vampire and that was all there was to him. Bonnie wasn’t sure about gaining the trust of other witches. She didn’t know anyone else here besides her friends and trying to ask others for help felt fruitless. It just seemed like a lot when it came to depending on people who could easily turn against her. Bonnie had a difficult time when it came to trusting others and part of her blamed Kai for that. Her entire resolve felt flattered the moment that she realized that she was utterly alone in her fight against him or at least she felt that way. Who could she rely on to take down Kai? Bonnie couldn’t risk the people she loved… Enzo had to strange ability to inspire her and while she wasn’t planning on risking his life she was glad that he was here for encouragement. Of course Enzo was here for other things as well. Bonnie was in a relationship with the vampire and his ability to take her mind off things was necessary. It wa really necessary at this point. “I’ll keep what you said in mind.” Bonnie went back to her dinner, not being one to talk too much as she was enjoying her food and drinking her wine. Bonnie was glad to have this, too. A dinner that felt normal even though everything around them wasn’t. Angels kidnapping them and tests happening at any time. It was only a matter of time before the other shoe dropped and the angels came after them again. “So, how about after this we go home and stay there for a while?” Bonnie smiled, her look and tone awfully obvious. The dinner seemed to go calmly after that little exchange and he had was debating surprising her with dessert. A forkful of steak was almost to Enzo’s mouth when his witch said something that perked his interest. He stared at her over the bit of steak as a slow, smug smile appeared on his face. “I think that is a brilliant plan, love.” He bit the juicy meat off his fork before setting the fork down on the edge of his plate. Most of his food was already gone, not that he really needed to eat. The taste was never the same as he quite remembered, but he hadn’t exactly eaten anything so fine as a human. “Perhaps it is best we skip dessert here.” He raised an eyebrow as he raised his hand to summon a waiter. “I think I will find this evening decadent enough as it is, gorgeous.” Soon enough the waiter was collecting payment and Enzo felt like things weren’t moving fast enough. The second he had the change he was out of his chair and moving to help Bonnie out hers. Enzo grinned at her as he held out a hand. “I’d say race you home, but we both know I’d cheat.” He pressed a kiss to her temple before chuckling softly. The world may have been ending around them, but he didn’t care. He had Bonnie. He was going to keep her alive no matter the price and if the whole town suffered? So be it. “Let’s go home.” |
