"We're just here enjoying the party," Eddie said, giving Mia a slight smirk. Same old Mia. Mia had changed so much in such a short period of time but the Strigoi had a habit of ripping apart lives. Just look at The Ozeras. Not only did Christan have to suffer being ostracized but his aunt had snapped and killed the queen just to ensure that the rules would change. Rose had a lot of crazy ideas that Eddie got dragged along with but none of them involved murder.
After they had been abducted, Mia had to leave to go back to court and they had drifted apart. But any time any one of them needed something that they couldn't get, Mia was always there to help. Just because she wasn't at school anymore didn't mean she wasn't networking her own contacts at court who could help her learn to practice her defensive magic.
Eddie didn't want the Moroi to be helpless. He knew that Jill had used her water magic to help fight off that Strigoi that had attacked her and Eve. He knew Christian had been very successful in using fire magic to kill Strigoi. Moroi weren't helpless but it had been drilled into his head since he was a little boy that it was his job to protect them. It was hard to erase that kind of thinking.
He wanted Mia to enjoy the party and not think about guarding it. That was his job, and Rose and Mason's job since they appeared to the only dhampirs at the party. But he couldn't blame Mia for wanting to remain alert and never become another victim again. Eddie understood that too well considering he served as the blood bag during that adventure.
"There are Strigoi here though, so you need to be careful. One of them attacked Jill recently. I've seen them attacking humans too. And there's only so many silver stakes to go around."
He didn't want Mia to run out and go vampire hunting but he wanted her to be prepared for if and when she ran into a Strigoi that wanted to take her out. While Strigoi did purposefully go after Moroi just to mock the system, Eddie wasn't sure that they were very discerning in general. Especially here, there weren't that many royals to rip through and Mia would probably look like a good target. And Dimitri proved that Strigoi were perfectly happy to drag dhampirs to their side as well by turning them.
