Jill would have blushed a little bit if she were capable but her pallor was always vampire pale, no matter what. Ironically, that had been part of why Lia had loved working with her so much. Jill had thought the tan girls were the pretty ones but apparently having porcelain skin could gain you some attention too. It was wild to her that she could go from the motormouth Jailbait to a model and a princess. Life was so strange.
And now here was a dhampir that looked exactly like her boyfriend from Amberwood but was someone she could actually talk to about her life. Mason knew everything about her life because he was almost always a couple of steps behind her. Eddie was supposed to be her guardian but here in this place, they seemed to all switch off on who they were guarding at any given moment.
"Yes, I am," she said with a smile. "I can't believe Adrian managed to hide all of this from me." He must have been drinking a lot which was his way of hiding things from her but unfortunately, he would eventually reach nuclear hangover meltdown levels and Jill would feel every inch of it. So she was going to be massively hung over from her own party that she wasn't drinking at. She knew she should enjoy while it lasted and when she did bump into Adrian she was going to give him the hugest hug ever.
"Are you having fun?" she asked. Mason was like Eddie, always working. So it was hard to tell if they were having fun or if they were just faking it while keeping up with their duty.
Jill's green eyes danced around the room, taking everybody in. Everyone was having fun, including the group of her classmates that had gotten out on the dance floor and were moving wildly to the beat. Jill couldn't believe that Adrian had done all of this for her.
It almost made up for the fact that they were having Rose lie to her. Yes, Jill was aware that Rose was faking knowing her. She was as clueless as the last Rose, as Lissa had been when she arrived. But Jill was stronger now than she had been before.
"I feel a lot better than I did a few months ago so you guys can have Rose stop lying to me." She smirked over at Mason. "I'm not mad. It's actually kind of funny watching her squirm every time I catch her in a lie." Jill smiled a little bit. It was fun torturing Rose but she knew she was doing it for Adrian and not any of her own animosity.
But she couldn't be mad right now while she was standing at her birthday party in a beautiful dress with a beautiful boy. She couldn't be mad at all knowing she had friends that cared this much about her. It was all such a gift and Jill did understand that.
