Who: Jophiel (Raven) and Bellamy What: The Return Where: The apartments When: Right now Status: Complete
When the EMP exploded it seemed to have worked the way that Raven expected it to. The blast radius wasn’t large but it knocked out the power, darkening the city as the barrier shattered, literally cracking as it disappeared for a few seconds. The excitement that rushed through Raven wasn’t something that could have been measured. She was with Bellamy and even he couldn’t believe it, having joined her with the intent to stop her but it was too late. The barrier was down - it was all over. They were all finally free.
Of course there was no predicting what happened next. The moment that Raven tried to go there was a flash of light, Raven almost blinded as the archangel Michael made his appearance. It was the first time that Raven had seen him in person, his body dressed up in a suit, his face menacing as he stared both Raven and Bellamy down.
It wasn’t even a fight. Michael took down Bell so fast that it was almost like he didn’t even lift a finger. The whole reasoning for Michael’s appearance was to fix what happened. The barrier went back up with a snap of a finger and then Michael was taking Raven away, her screams echoing as she called out for Bellamy who struggled to even get up.
That was eight days ago.
But now she was back - well, Raven’s body was back. The angels fixed the situation by putting Raven into a deep sleep inside of her own mind, snuffed out in a sense as another being took over her body. The angel “Jophiel” now resided inside of Raven, controlling her, sounding like her, possessing her body as a means to...bring about understanding.
She appeared out of nowhere but her intent was to do so, her presence becoming known to Bellamy Blake as he exited his apartment. The moment he turned around he would be faced with her, Raven - Jophiel, she greeted him with a nod, her smile brief, as was her expression that shifted to a more stoic one.
“Hello Bellamy.”
Bellamy tried to keep himself out of trouble since Raven was taken. He felt like shit honestly. He should have stopped it, but he never even had a chance. It was like one minute she was there and the next, she was gone. He wasn’t taking this easy. He was beating himself up over it. If only he had been able to stop her. He tried. He remembered yelling at her, telling her that it was stupid. Sure, when he first got here, the idea sounded good but after being there a few days to a week, it wasn’t the smartest idea. You know better than this, Raven, he remembered saying to her. Because she did, she knew better.
And now she was gone.
He knew Finn was fucked up because of it. And Bellamy knew, even if Finn didn’t say it that Finn blamed him. How could he not? He was there with her. Now Bellamy was waiting around for Finn to do something reckless because that’s what Finn did. And Bellamy doubted he could stop him either.
It was just a never ending circle of bullshit and Bellamy hadn’t even been here a month. What more could possibly happen? Maybe that question shouldn’t have been asked because truth be told, so much more could happen. He just hadn’t experienced it yet.
The apartment was quiet. Nobody was here. Finn and Jasper were out, so was Murphy who had just gotten here while Raven was gone. It was so crazy watching people go only to come back so that - yeah. Now he knew what everyone else felt like when he apparently left only to come back again.
When he stepped out into the hallway and turned around to close the door, he heard his name, he heard her voice.
“...Raven?” He turned around, seeing her there. He didn’t even notice her mannerisms, right now - that was just nothing to him as he smiled because he actually believed it was her. So much so that he literally took a step to hug her. Shit. She was here. She was back and … he was just glad she was back. Her never coming back would have been on him.
He pulled back, letting his arms drop as he looked at her. “What happened? Where did you go?”
Raven didn’t hug him back. It was such...a strange sensation. To feel. To have someone hug this body she was in. Jophiel, the name that Michael gave her, didn’t know what feeling human was like, to be in this body as before everything was just dark. Dark and gloomy. Now she was here and she had to follow orders. Do what Michael commanded her to do.
“I left and now I’ve returned.” Raven looked Bellamy over but then she looked at herself, at her hands, the shape of them, the way skin connected to bone, the way her heart was beating. It was the first time she had been in a body. Smooth and small. She felt so insignificant.
“But I’m not Raven. She’s gone.”
Turning away, Raven started to walk down the hall, not paying attention to Bellamy anymore. She didn’t know why it felt confusing, why Bellamy was looking at her as if he didn’t understand why she needed to go. Jophiel felt that she needed to explore, to take in the city, to feel something…
Bellamy was stunned as he stood there in the hallway, watching Raven go. Except it wasn’t Raven? If it wasn’t Raven then who the hell was in her body? Bellamy looked after her and took off into a run in order to catch up with her. Before she had the chance to hit the elevator button, he was there, stopping her.
“Who the hell are you? Where the hell is Raven?” He asked, looking down at her. No, he wasn’t going to let her just go. He wasn’t going to let whoever was using her body go any further. His first instinct was to try and get a hold of Clarke so she could be here too.
He and Clarke hadn’t talked since the day that Raven had disappeared. In fact, Bellamy hadn’t talked to many. He said things in passing with his roommates, but that was about it. Other than that, he had been keeping to himself, brooding in his own guilt because of the fact that Raven was gone.
But now she was here and it wasn’t even her.
“Answer me,” he said, not sure what this person was even capable of. Who knew who was inside of her body. He knew crazy shit happened here in Los Angeles because of the angels and this could be one of those times for all he knew. He was still new at this.
“Don’t worry. I’m not a demon.” Those were lowly beings or at least that’s what the others had told her. When she was created she was said to be of light. She was an angel, wasn’t she? Jophiel’s mission was to set things right. She was to help the displaced in their quest to defeat the demons that were quickly coming from underneath them. Soon the final battle would begin and none of them seemed ready. Was she even prepared?
“Raven is...being punished.” Suppressed was the correct term. Raven’s soul was still inside but it was barred, locked behind chains, tied down and left in the dark. Jophiel could hear her cries, could sense her agony and her pain to be freed but it wasn’t possible. There was no way to remove Jophiel without killing the host.
“You disobeyed orders. You’ve been told to prepare for the fight to save mankind and yet Raven almost destroyed this safe haven that my masters have created. If the barrier had been destroyed everyone here would have been lost to the Nothing. That is truly what lies beyond the barrier.” Jophiel shook her head, knowing that she didn’t have to explain anything to this human.
Okay, so she wasn’t a demon but how the hell was he supposed to know for sure? It wasn’t like he had knowledge in the demons here. The most recent were the ones who stole souls, but he had missed that, so really - he didn’t know what to look for. Right now, he could only take her word for it, but to him, her word meant shit to him. He wanted to know where Raven was.
“Wait, being punished? What do you mean?” He asked then and he knew that she was definitely not leaving his sight. He knew that something screwed up would happen, he just didn’t think it would be this. “Who has her? Was that an angel who took her? Are you - you’re an angel,” he said then, realizing it. She was the very thing that took Raven away. Who was punishing her now. Bellamy had saw first hand what angels could do in a matter of seconds and he knew that honestly? He stood no chance against her. But that didn’t mean he wouldn’t at least try.
“How is Raven being punished?” He asked. He didn’t care about the rest. He didn’t care that this angel was technically telling them that the barrier kept them safe. He would have had more questions on that but he needed assurance that Raven would be okay. He couldn’t have a conversation with her until he knew for sure. Until he knew that Raven would come to them.
“You think I care about that right now? The only thing I care about is knowing that Raven is going to be okay. That she’s going to come back. I want to know what the hell you’re doing to her!” He yelled and it wouldn’t have been a surprise if people came out of their apartments but so far it was just the two of them.
Bellamy and an angel.
He never thought this would have happened in his lifetime.
“She broke the barrier. You don’t need to know why.” Was this human dumb? What else could she have possibly meant? The elevator door opened but Jophiel refrained, not getting on it as she faced down this lowly being. Bellamy Blake. Ah, yes. Jophiel was able to search this memories. This man...he had wanted to kill Raven the moment they met and yet in a way they became friends. Raven had even made the choice to share her body with him. The pleasures of man weren’t something that Jophiel knew but she could feel it, could remember through Raven what it felt like.
“You feel for her, don’t you?” the angel asked, stepping close so that she could examine Bell up close, to see those sharp edges of his jaw, his complexion that wasn’t anything to be ashamed of. Jophiel might have just arrived but she was well informed of the ways of humans. How they easily followed one another and craved physical attention.
“You have felt her,” Jophiel touched him, her hand finding Bell’s chest, her fingers splayed across his t-shirt. She felt how his heartbeat quickened and Jophiel smiled, surprised at how easy it was. She could literally sense how Bellamy actually craved Raven.
Bellamy was aware that she had broke the barrier, but that didn’t answer his question and he realized then that he probably wasn’t going to find out anything that had to do with Raven. His hand slid down the wall and his arm fell back at his side so he wasn’t blocking the elevator anymore. The doors closed however without either of them getting on it.
“What are you doing?” He asked, watching as she moved closer, but Bellamy didn’t exactly stop her. Raven was his friend, he cared about her. They had been through a lot of shit together back home and here alike and he would have cared if it were anyone else. But this angel was able to know things. See things. He looked down at her hand on his chest. Moving his arm, his fingers wrapped around her wrist.
“That’s none of your business,” he told her and moved her hand and slapped his own against the button on the elevator so it would return. He moved out of the way, but his eyes were on her. Bellamy remembered his and Raven’s one night together perfectly but it wasn’t as if it changed anything. She still felt like shit because of Finn and Clarke and to him, just like he told her, he wasn’t going to stop her. Much like he probably wouldn’t have now, so he guessed not much had changed in that department, but at least now he cared about her.
“So what are you doing here? What’s your plan? What’s the point?” He asked, his eyes on her. He swallowed hard when he saw her stare. He knew that she was capable of anything and it was a little intimidating - more like a lot. Right now, anything could happen and there wasn’t a damn thing that Bellamy could do to stop it.
“No, I guess not.”
Jophiel watched as Bellamy hit the button again so that the elevator could return. All the angel did between then and the doors opening was watch, her expression blank, as if she had no emotion inside of her which was partly true. Angels didn’t have to feel. She had never felt anything since her “birth” so it wasn’t unusual for her not to feel anything now. She was supposed to learn that, to live in this body and watch, see how those who arrived to Los Angeles reacted to certain things. She had a part to play in all of this, too.
“There is no plan. I’m just here. Raven is gone and that’s all there is to it.” Jophiel was sure that in time they were all learn of her arrival and what it meant for this. For once the people who arrived had some sort of connection to those who were to blame for it all. They couldn’t hurt her. Couldn’t kill her. She knew that their anger would come but whatever they tried to do to her would only hurt the vessel.
It was perfect, really. Because she was wearing Raven nobody would touch her. Raven’s “friends” would make sure of that. They would protect her at all cost and maybe the angels were counting on that. It was probably the reason they took her in the first place.
Bellamy felt defeated as he listened to her. There was nothing he could do, nothing he could say. He wasn’t even sure if he could actually believe this, but what else was there to believe? The angels ran this place, he literally saw an angel taking Raven away from him, not even giving him a chance. He just didn’t know what else to do at the moment and he doubted there was anything he could actually do.
“We’ll stop you,” Bellamy said then, knowing he was talking out of turn - he guessed - to an angel. An angel could probably kill him with the snap of her fingers and when the elevator doors opened, he literally pulled his gun and aimed it at her. Would it hurt? Would it kill her?
He wasn’t sure but she wasn’t phased by it at all. That blank stare was in her eyes and it reminded him of the people he knew under ALIE’s influence.
“You can’t just treat people this way without expecting retaliation,” Bellamy yelled, trying to get through to her, but he knew then that it was no use. He would have to talk to Clarke, tell her what happened and from there, they would have to think of something. Finn wasn’t going to like this, but would any of them? Bellamy didn’t. He hated it. He also hated the fact that he couldn’t pull the trigger when all he wanted to do was stop this woman.
“Then retaliate.” Jophiel stepped inside the elevator, her body turning around so that she could look at Bellamy and for once there was a smug look on her face. A new emotion she didn’t think that she would be able to feel and yet she did, it sprang forth from the pit of her stomach, this desire that nobody could touch her and if they did then she had people who would protect her. She had Bellamy. She had Finn. She would even have this person called Murphy who once shared affections for this body.
“But you know you can’t. Not as long as I’m in this body.” Jophiel knew that it was what the other angels wanted. As long as she was on the ground she was at a risk but Raven’s body was still Raven’s. It could still be cut. It could still be harmed although Jophiel would ultimately protect her vessel from damage.
The gun that was aimed at her head didn’t even make her flinch. She waited for Bellamy to pull the trigger but he didn’t. Of course he didn’t. He would ultimately kill Raven and Jophiel would just be sent back. She wouldn’t die but Raven, well, that was another story.
“Goodbye, Bellamy.” The elevator doors closed slowly and the last thing Bell would see was a wicked smile.
